How would you guys rank the big ten so far this year and how do you guys see the Conference race panning out this. Right now I would break it down into three groups. I think that OSU is the best team in the conference with Purdue and Minnesota a close second and third. I think Scum is the fourth best team in the conference but could move up into group 1 because they play every team in group 1 so they could improve their position. I think that the difference between Iowa, Wisconsin and group 3 isn't that great so you could see some upsets in those games.<O:p</O:p

<O:p</O:p
Group 1:
OSU
Purdue
Minnesota

Group 2:
Scum
Wisconsin
Iowa

Group 3:
PSU
Scum St.
Illinois
Indiana
Northwestern

I will say this... I'm not overly impressed or scared of any team in the Big Ten.

I would say our chances of running the table are 50/50.

Elite:
OSU
Minny

Good but not elite:
Purdue
Meshitagain
Wisky

Average teams that might make a bowl:
Mich St.
Iowa

Sisters of the poor:
Indiana
Illinois
Northwestern
Penn St.

Elite teams:
OSU has the best special teams and defense in the conference. If our offense improves we will be scary

Minny has the best offense in the conference but has question marks on special teams and defense. Their kicker missed two extra points.

Good but not elite:
Michigan has a decent overall offense and good defense but their running game and db's absolutely suck ass. Their special teams is horrible.

Purdue has a great passing offense but their special teams and defense was exposed by Illinois. They look less scary than in the first two weeks.

Wisconsin has a worse offense than we do but their defense is probably second in the Big Ten. Their special team isn't all that special.

Average teams that might make a bowl:
Mich St. has a decent offense and defense but their special teams suck. IMO these guy will improve all year long.

Iowa hasd a decent defense and horrible offense. their special teams took a big hit with the loss of kaeding.

I'm not gonna waste time going over the teams that suck. If we lose to any of these teams we don't deserve the Big Ten or NC.

IMO there is one phase of the game that we are heads and shoulders above every team in the Bog Ten and thats special teams. Wisky is the only team I think that has a complete defense like OSU. WE WILL MAKE STRIDES ON OFFENSE AS THE SEASON PROGRESSES.

THERE IS ONLY ONE TEAM IN THE BIG TEN THAT CAN BEAT OHIO STATE AND THATS OHIO STATE. WE CAN BEAT ANY TEAM WE PLAY AND WE SHOULD GO UNDEFEATED. I GET MORE CONFIDENT THE MORE I SEE OTHER TEAMS PLAY. WE CONTROL OUR OWN DESTINY!!!

1. Oklahoma
2.
3. USC
4.
5. Georgia........

you get the point.

I am not trying to be contrary but our Offense has to really come together and click before we can be the very best in our conference or at least considered in that light. When that happens we will definitely be one of the best in the conference and in all of college football.
First our O-line has to learn to communicate alot better and sustain blocks alot longer than they have to help out our lackluster running game. Second, Justin Zwick has to at least learn to recognize the different coverage defenses and to slow the game down and be patient and not try to force things. When he does that OMG he will be one of the very best.
M#chigan, Purdue,Wisconsin, Iowa, all have a chance against us IF they are having a great day and no mistakes, even though no team scares me in the Big Ten. Other teams in college (ie:Oklahoma) have shown a more balanced game than us even though OSU has shown soooo much potential. IF its realized then we can be considered the best in the conference and country.
We have one of the very very best factors though ... Coach Tressel. I'd put his smarts and talents for controling the game and coaching our kids against anyone though.
I will say this though, when our offense comes together and when our d-line matures just a tad more and stops the run a little more better, WOW we will be able to take on anyone in the Big Ten, better yet, anyone in the whole of college football.

I disagree Buckeyenation

Any fan with any knowledge of the game would be the first person to tell you that we have the best FG kicker in the country and had outstanding special teams. Definately the best in the Big Ten and maybe in the whole country.

Any fan with half a brain would say the Buckeyes have a great defense. IMO OSU and Wisconsin have the only complete defense in the Big Ten.

Thats two of the three phases of the game OSU is tops in the Big Ten.

Any fan would say the Buckeye offense is horrible!!!! IMO the running game is horrible. We are a running game away from having a GOOD OFFENSE. Zwick will improve throughout the year.

Defense and Special teams win championships. A smart fan would not want to play OSU ESPECIALLY IN COLUMBUS!!

Brutus2002,
Although I agree with you on most of your points :
#1 Defense wins championships and special teams win championships
#2 We have a great defense (although we do have to mature a little more on run defense - only IMO).
#3 We have the very best kicker in college
#4 we have one of the very best ever in Coach Tressel.

What most think is that yes we have all the components BUT our offense has to have a complete game (consistently) before "any fan with knowledge of the game" can say we are the very best. Yes we have the potential and yes we have the best FG kicker and Defense (which by the way again needs to improve on run defense just a small margin). Top that off with an elite Coach and yes nobody in their right minds would want to play such a finely coached team, but we are still vulnerable. Even you have to admit that our offense is not running on all cylinders YET. It will happen but until then I think BuckeyeNation27, as well as you, would agree we are vulnerable to even some of the teams in our conference (ex. Tsun, Wisconsin, Iowa, Purdue) ... let alone Oklahoma, USC, and Georgia (I think thats what BN27 was making reference too)...
p.s. hope that puts me in the catogory of a smart fan instead of a smarta$$ed fan to you :)

We have won NC and two BCS without a "scary" offense. In fact our offense in 2002 was offensive!!!! We don't need an all world offense to go all the way. The running game needs to improve but every other part of our game is fine.

Hmm I agree that we haven't impressed anyone either, but lets not forget who Choklahoma has played. Lets see BGSU - who scored like 24 or 30 on them, Houston - enough said ... and Oregon - Indiana beat them, and Oregon moved the ball well on Choklahoma. With that schedule anyone worth anything should be able to look impressive. Im not saying we should be ranked higher than them, because it is too early to know, but blowing out Houston doesn't impress me. I still think USC should be #1 ... they are defending national champs so they deserve #1 until they lose. I said the same thing last year when we were dropped because of sloppy wins, and I will say it now.

Nobody said every other part wasn't fine and I hope your right Brutus2002. Its not that I do not think we can go all the way. Just catious. All the components are there and by far the potential for this Offense is anything but "offensive" for this years crew. If they break out and do what they can do they will be just as amazing as the defense is. I still have faith that Justin Zwick can be one of our very best QB's when its all said and done. Coach Tressel is just grooming him slowly. When its the end of January and you find me Brutus2002, I would not mind at all if you scolded at me for being so catious !!! haha :)

good points on Oklahoma too Sdgobucks

I honestly think we have the #1 special teams unit in the nation.... If you look at it.

Punt Team- Getting good not great punting but I mean EXCELLENT COVERAGE.
Punt Return- Although we dont get awesome returns we do get nice coverage at times.
Kickoff- No team will break one for a TD this year, and we've been gettting to them inside the 15 in most cases.
Kick Return- This is the Surprise, we've been getting past the 25 yard line every time.
Field Goal- well yeah.........
Field Goal Block- How many times have we got pressure to force misses by the other kickers?

No Team is as good right now as we are at Special teams.

anyhow, if we use Pittman to get his quickness into play and force them to try and contain our running game outside it will open up the middle of the defense EXTREAMLY. I don't know how to stress it more. We not only need just to see what the others can do, but also for a change of styles between the running backs as well as forcing the others defenses to play excellent not sub par run stopping defense. For Sure guys I think we've faced probably our two toughest run stopping oppenents for the year besides Wisconsin in 2 weeks. If we do this we'll be playing for a National Championship. Boy I hope we do cuz I'd love knowing during the off season it can only get better with a very favorable schedule as well as a LOADED team. Probably even more talented than last years group.

so oklahoma hasnt impressed you yet?
Nope, and they wont unless they prove they can win a close game. When things got close last year they got beat.

Oklahoma has been the most consistently over hyped program in college football for the last 4 year ... I will not add to it.

I would take USC over oklahoma any day this season any where.
