Big XII (official thread of whining, and homely herpes-having’ hos)

The 1996 media guide contained a bullet point emphasizing the fact all 13 Buckeye games in 1995 were televised, including 9 games on ABC, 3 on ESPN, and 1 on ESPN2. It certainly wasn't routine even then.

Just off the top of my head I remember not getting the ESPN+/GamePlan feed for SDSU's near-upset at the Shoe in 2003; I listened to that one on the radio. As recently as 2006 we've dealt with the OSU/Indiana game being carried by ESPNU, which was not available to Comcast customers and only on Time Warner in an expensive premium tier, also with a tape delayed broadcast available on ONN. Even the Michigan/App St & Ohio State/YSU games in 2007 were unavailable to many because of problems getting carriage for BTN. Also recall going to a bar for an Ohio State/Minnesota game in the late 90s because I did not have ESPN2.

I believe one of the things Nebraska fans lauded about the move to the Big Ten and getting BTN was that they would no longer have PPV games, which I've always understood has been a regularity in Big XII markets.

I remember that Indiana game well - it was 2006 and my wife and I went to watch it at a Fricker's in Springfield...

You kids are all spoiled rotten. Why, when I was growing up, we could only listen to the Buckeyes on a crystal set by sneaking into Old Man Pearson's basement. One of us would keep a lookout for Old Man Pearson, and another would listen though the headphones and give the rest updates. One time, Rusty stopped paying attention to his lookout duties, and the Old Man chased us away with a shotgun. I always figured him for a Michigan man anyway.

Felt so bad for the K State players tonight. I've seen coaches call a game bad, but wow. They owned, absolutely owned TCU in the first half on the ground. They just ran it down their throats. The coaches come out and say, you know what we did to completely dominate the first half, we aren't going to do that at all. The entire 3rd quarter was a failed passing attack. Then in the 4th quarter they cave, go back to running the ball, get a TD, and then the very next possession go back to a primarily passing attack. TCU definitely will get a loss or two, but hot damn they are fast, maybe they are just so small that they look faster.

Completely gutless for KSU to kick a field goal with 1:47 left in the game rather than go for it on 4th and 1. At that point they had blown an 18 point halftime lead had been outscored by 21 in the second half.

Still whining....

Big 12 asks ESPN to stop Star Wars ad with Baylor, TCU players

The Big 12 sent a cease and desist letter to ESPN regarding the network's use of video showing Baylor and TCU football players in a Star Wars commercial, Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby confirmed to CBS Sports.

Prior to the Baylor-TCU game on Nov. 27, ESPN aired a Star Wars-themed introduction that featured clips from the upcoming movie spliced with highlights of Baylor and TCU football players in action. The end of the 30-second commercial showed the date when the movie opens in theaters and encouraged viewers to purchase tickets.

“We were surprised and unhappy,” Bowlsby said.

Good thing Oklahoma has all but locked up a CFP spot; as a Big XII may not be getting any "love" from ESPN now.....

Maybe no love, but I think they had a point. Where did they sign a contract to have their brand and likenesses used to fatten Disney's pockets?
I'm betting nowhere.

FIFY

Don't think Lucas is involved any more since Disney bought the SW rights...

I think.

edit: so, makes sense that E!SPN, a Disney property, would use it's platform to advertise SW

Will NCAA vote force Big 12 to expand for conference title game?

The Big 12's future membership number and its ability to stage a football championship game could become clearer this week. Gradually, a picture has emerged of what a compromise might look like at the NCAA convention this week in San Antonio.

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said Sunday his conference will vote against proposals that would change the format of football championship games, but he did indicate a willingness to find a different way for the Big 12 to stage a championship game if it wants one.

“Is there a way to allow a 10-team conference to play full round robin and play a championship game?” Sankey asked. “I think that's worthy of a conversation, but it hasn't been introduced for formal consideration at this point.”

“My sense is [Big 12 presidents and athletic directors] like the money that comes with a championship game, and there's some belief that we are always going to have the issue of a 13th data point disadvantaging us with the [College Football Playoff] committee,” Bowlsby said. “Some years we're going to wish we have one more game and others we won't. I don't think that's going away so we have to acknowledge we're at some level of disadvantage by not playing the 13th game.”

As a member of one of four teams that left the conference because TEXpn was given too much power....
While the rest of the league sat idly by and did nothing....

I think I speak on behalf of everyone in

Corn
Aggyland
Mizzory
Buffburgerland

When I say...well...let me let Cohaagen say it for me....
