Big XII (official thread of whining, and homely herpes-having’ hos)

Unfortunately, it won't be official until the CFP Selection Committee amends their New Years Six Bowl selection guidelines.

There is nothing unfortunate about it

By 2023, when the move of the Horns and the Sooners is complete, the rules will have been amended and the new rules will then go into effect. It’s neither fortunate nor unfortunate; it’s practically Newtonian

Big 12 expansion: How adding BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, UCF may change college football's power structure

College athletics is waiting for the SEC to say out loud it won't expand beyond 16. The league has done enough damage to the Big 12. Regardless, the question becomes whether a league without Texas and Oklahoma to define it can remain big time.

"I'm confident the Big 12 is going to retain Power Five status," said Chuck Neinas, the league's commissioner from 1971-80 who served it again in an interim role from 2011-12. "Will [Greg] Sankey say no?"

Neinas was being facetious suggesting the SEC commissioner owes the Big 12 an alignment favor. But he is not far off the mark. A reconstituted Big 12 would be the lowest-resourced Power Five conference. It would have fewer brands and major metro markets than any of the other four.

Better to be on the right side of the line that defines haves vs. have nots in college athletics. The retention of the Big 12 in the Power Five model would give it 69 major-conference schools with 61 so-called Group of Five schools below that line.

It would be the first time since at least the beginning of the College Football Playoff in 2014 where there was a majority of teams at the top level.

Because of that, the Big 12's future could be a simple case of kill or be killed. The SEC targeted the two schools that essentially made it a desirable conference to the networks. Now, the Big 12 faces raiding the lower-resourced American Athletic Conference to get bigger. There is little choice to keep the Big 12 in the Power Five.

The "power" in power five refers to the ability of the schools/conference to influence. Even if the little 12 is kept on as a 'power' conference they will be a junior partner kept only to keep the group of five from gaining any influence. Their champ will be ignored is almost every circumstance.

One of the unexpected results of this shake up is that we’re going to find out how much influence the networks really have. If the Little XII maintain a seat at the table, it would be pure political bullshit. They don’t deserve a seat at the table and everyone knows it. Moreover, the tv networks would be livid. Ensuring that some crap team with a crap following is guaranteed a place in a NY6 Bowl would not sit well with them at all. If they truly have the power to stop it, they will.

But let’s be real, the NY6 deal is not long for this world. Who knows how the new world will be configured. The only thing certain is that the Little XII does not deserve the Big XII’s seat at whatever that table is and the tv networks and the bowls will not want the Little XII to have that seat. Dennis Dodd can believe what he likes; something may even happen in the next few months that will precipitate a pre-mature victory lap from him. But probably by 2023 and certainly by 2026, the cfb post-season is going to look different enough from what it does now that Dodd’s article will be viewed the same way all of the other steaming piles that he grunts out of his keyboard are viewed.

Even if they get a seat at the table the TV contract will tll you all you need to know. I don't expect them to be offered above 15 Million per year. The old Big XII schools will whine and cry about it then take it in the edn cause something is better then nothing
