Big XII (official thread of whining, and homely herpes-having’ hos)

This may be the spark that awakens the Houston program. I've always thought that if given the chance in a bigger conference and can finally offer big time recruits something more to play, UH could be a major thorn in bigger teams sides. That has long been UT's fear

That's almost verbatim what people are hoping for with Cincy and us. I have doubts...

Will conference affiliation ever make a difference to a recruit that holds an offer from both Ohio State and Cinci?

If it does, will it ever make a difference in Cinci’s favor?

By the same token, though perhaps to a marginally lesser extent, it seems doubtful that a recruit with offers from both Houston and UT would favor Houston when they’re in the same conference. It certainly didn’t happen much when they were both in the SWC. In a few years, when UT is in the SEC, Houston’s offer will look just adorable by comparison. Awwww Who’s the little college pretending to be a big boy? Aren’t you just the cutest thing?

It makes the same difference it did when Cincy was in the big east. Jack and shit well it made a difference for basketball maybe this time but it's a much harder ask

Difference is, Houston is one of the biggest cities in America, and has a much bigger and more well known alumni base than UC(https://abc13.com/university-of-houston-alumni-famous-faces-uh/1496420/). The 2 programs aren't exactly the same. And no to mention that Houston has more athletic talent than Cincinnati as well. And I think you all are also forgetting tha recruiting will be forever changed due to NIL. And yes, UT has a lot to offer there, but so can UH. And UC can't compete with either. The owner of the Houston Rockets, Tillman Fertita is an UH alum and could throw a sponsorship on a kid for one of his restaurants or casinos, UC can't offer that. Rappers can sponsor them and feature them in songs(don't think that that won't make a decision for some kids if Lil Wayne sponsors), Master P just got a $2mil deal for his son to go to an HBCU, I'm sure he could get a similar deal for a basketball or football player. These are all things people are forgetting. And Houston would love more than to keep their local kids home, and there are few places in the country that offer not only a major city for a major university, but also have a ton of talent within a 1hr radius. In the SWC UH actually competed and won multiple titles, and its known in TX circles that UT essentially banished UH to a lower tier for fear of true competition(TCU, Tech, Baylor were never seen as much of a threat). I'm just saying, don't sleep on UH, and having the money to be able give HCs longer that UC can't.

Nobody is forgetting anything

you’re just changing the subject

Does NIL change things? Massively… Seismically

Might conference-affiliation provide a tiny millinudge in the same direction that NIL is pulling a kid? OK fine, but the idea that it is going to be a major factor for a significant number of kids is just silly.

The history of college football conference lame ducks, and what it means for Texas and Oklahoma

Big 12 teams have never had to muster enthusiasm to take on Texas or Oklahoma. The Sooners have won 14 Big 12 titles in the league's 24 years, including the past six. The Longhorns won the first Big 12 title in 1996 before adding two more in 2005 and 2009, and Texas' self-assuredness (school motto: "What Starts Here Changes The World") and standing in college football history elicits strong emotions from rivals.

But on Saturday, the Big 12's departing heavyweights will play their first conference road games since opting for the greener pastures of the SEC, which means the Sooners and Longhorns can expect even more hostility than usual.

"When you go on a trip, you just expect to arrive with the respect of who you are and what you represent," said Jack Crowe, who coached against the Longhorns as a coordinator and head coach at Arkansas and later as an assistant at Baylor. "Good luck on that one, boys. When they line up to boo you from between the bus and the door, you'll know things have changed."

Crowe would know. He was the Arkansas head coach in 1990 and 1991 when the Razorbacks were in the same boat. Crowe didn't know the Hogs would be leaving the Southwest Conference for the SEC when he took the job. Even further, he said he didn't know athletic director Frank Broyles would announce on Aug. 1, 1990, that the Razorbacks were departing, just three days before the Southwest Conference's annual media event.

Arkansas' experience three decades ago -- as well as a handful of others since -- could be a preview of what Texas and Oklahoma can expect.

In the recent history of college football realignment, Arkansas' move is probably the closest comparison to the Big 12's predicament, leaving a football-driven conference that was already facing questions about its future viability.

Former Nebraska coach Bo Pelini wasn't just worried about the fans heading into the Cornhuskers' lame-duck season in the Big 12 in 2010. He was already convinced the Cornhuskers were getting a raw deal from the league.

The season before, Nebraska celebrated on the field after Colt McCoy threw an incomplete pass as the final seconds ticked off the clock in the Big 12 championship game. But following a booth review, officials put a second back on the clock, and Texas kicked the game-winning field goal.

Now the Huskers were spurning the league and heading north.

"The league office was not happy and now you've got to play a whole year like that," he said. "I remember telling the team, 'Don't expect any help from the referees. We're changing conferences and that's just the way it is.' That's the way it turned out to be."

Late in the season, the 9-1 Huskers, ranked No. 8, traveled to Texas A&M for a big game against the No. 19 Aggies. Nebraska was penalized 16 times for 145 yards. Texas A&M had two penalties for 10 yards. The Aggies won 9-6.

Pelini cited several calls he considered puzzling. A pass interference call on A&M was waved off by officials. A player got called for what he considered an errant late hit. Another was flagged for targeting when Pelini said the film showed the player hitting the quarterback in the middle of his back.

"We didn't get any breaks from the referees, I tell you that," he said. "In my opinion, we got ripped off. It was a joke."

I make a motion that some of our Ped State ref fund be released to Big XII refs to make sure Texas doesn’t win the conference championship this year.

Hell - send them all, for all I care. I refuse to give money to the Big Ten refs until they fix the wrongs of 2016. They had chances to fix them in 2017 and 2018, but didn't. Ohio State didn't need them, but that doesn't change the fact that the refs failed in 2016 and haven't paid me a dime back, or made a single terrible call against Penn State in a game against Ohio State since then.

Big 12 engaged in plans to split into two seven-team divisions beginning in 2023 amid realignment

Here's a projection of one way the Big 12 could organize its seven-team divisions in 2023:

BIG 12 NORTH.. BIG 12 SOUTH
Cincinnati...............Baylor
BYU.......................Houston
Iowa State..............TCU
Kansas...................Texas
Kansas State...........Texas Tech
Oklahoma...............UCF
Oklahoma State.......West Virginia

Entire article: https://www.cbssports.com/college-f...divisions-beginning-in-2023-amid-realignment/

Just sayin: West Virginia (Lat 39.629524) is north of every Big XII team except Iowa State (Lat 42.034534) and BYU (Lat 40.233845).

Just for the sake of off season arguments: let’s say there’s a four star RB that has offers from both. Yeah, Ohio State has the name and the tv market, but they are also set with Henderson and Williams, whereas you’re assured PT at Cincinnati. I can see a kid thinking UC has more to offer because you don’t make the draft list riding the pine.
