Now this is a kid on defense than can flat out play! But we're fighting an up hill battle with Miami! Randy Shannon is one heck of a recruiter, especially when the kid favors his school.

We might just want to move on from this kid, he got that coveted Miami offer that he was looking for, and Randy Shannon isn't letting this kid go! At least we were in this race for a little, and at least we have enough DB talent in the Midwest(OH specifically) so that this loss won't hurt much at all.

That makes zero sense.

If he got his "coveted" offer, why would he delay the process and take multiple visits?

Boy I'm sure glad we didn't have that attitude with Sabino, Howard, and other OOS last year. I mean geez the all powerful Hurricanes who didn't make a bowl last year offered him. Not to be arrogant but LSU,OSU,and USC are the gold standard of CFB right now.

Reel this kid in!!!!

I agree that the job of recruiting Darrell just got harder, but it isn't smart to just give up on one of the nations top CBs just on someone's offer. I agree with the post above me that tOSU, USC and LSU are the most cherished offers in college football today. I think we have a shot....it's not gonna be easy, but when some of the top recruits meet with Tressel, and check out the facilities and the tradition here, we're bound to get any recruit excited about Columbus!

All I'm saying is, this kid has been talking about wanting to go to the U for a while, I haven't even heard him mention tOSU anywhere, except on OSU websites and message boards that's all I'm saying. It would be great to try and get him, but he seems like he has Miami as a favorite. And as far as going on multiple visits, don't most top rated recruits do that and get a free trip? Didn't we have several recruits that favored tOSU and still went on other visits but stated from the begininning of the recruiting process that they favroed tOSU?

Look at the situation with Harris. We almost snagged him away. I have been talking to a friend of mine(scummer fan) and he is scared out of his mind about last years class and the possibility of this years class. He fully recognizes that we are stcoked for 4-6 years of BCS and NC games...B10 titles...wins versus Michigan.

How do you think Tressel did it? He and the staff worked their tails off evaluating and recruitng. Thats how dynasties are built. There are many fans of teams that mock OSU for losing back to back NC games...most are jealous.

Do you honestly believe that Miami has more prestige than OSU? I live in Alabama and although I take my shots from SEC fans the knowledgable ones recognize we have a juggernaut.

The young man may not choose the Buckeyes but IMO we have a good of shot as anybody. I say we fight as hard as possible and "waste as much tiem as we need too" getting this stud.

My opinion is...this is a good opinion! Better than a shot of RedBull. Well done.

I second the above.....that's what recruiting is all about. We're gonna have to convince Darrell that tOSU is the best place for him. He's gonna get a piece of the pie if he comes here in the form of Big Ten, Rose Bowl and NC rings every year! "Be part of a dynasty!"....that's what I'd tell the recruits visiting here.

Also, once we get kids to travel here....we have a very good chance of landing them. Last year we had 24 official visits, and got 19 of them. Never underestimate JT and crew!

I agree with that point, and in no way do I believe that Miami is superior in recruiting, I'm just saying for THIS kid, he has stated on many occasions that his "dream school" is Miami! I don't underestimate JT at all, it's just like if we had a Cleveland Glenville kid who says that his dream school is Ohio State, but yet he visits other schools, who most likely has the best chance of landing(and most of the time it happens) him, that dream school! That's all I'm saying. My statements were only talking about this kid, and not about tOSU's recruiting in general. Yes we have a good chance of getting him, but Miami has a greater chance of getting him!

Cleveland Glenville is in Ohio

Ohio State is in Ohio.

Most Ohio kids dream of playing for Ohio State in Ohio.

Miami is in Florida.

Darrell Givens attends HS in Maryland.

Miami is not in Maryland.

Most Maryland kids do not grow up dreaming of playing for Miami...or Maryland.

Connection denied.

Yeah I didn't see that pro JT sentiment too much, but I'm glad you're being optimistic. I hope we get him, he looks like a great CB, but it's gonna be VERY hard to get him from the clutches of Randy Shannon and the "U"! Especially since he's favored them for so long
