Schembechler may get official day

LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- A University of Michigan gridiron legend might get his own official day in the state.

A state House committee on Thursday approved a bill that would designate the date of the University of Michigan's first home football game each season Bo Schembechler Day.

The bill now goes to the House floor.

Schembechler coached the Wolverines from 1969 through 1989. His Michigan teams won 194 games.

Schembechler died in 2006.

The bill is sponsored by Rebekah Warren, a Democratic representative from Ann Arbor.

Schembechler's son sues stepmother over his father's trust | The Columbus Dispatch
The son of legendary Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler is suing his stepmother over concerns about a trust her late husband created. Glenn Schembechler III filed the lawsuit against Kathryn Schembechler, his father's third wife, in federal court Monday in Columbus, Ohio.
The lawsuit alleges that Kathryn Schembechler, of Boca Grande, Fla., is not providing Glenn Schembechler with quarterly statements about the trust that he's entitled to.
The lawsuit doesn't say how much money is at stake but says at least $75,000 is involved.
Bo Schembechler died in 2006.
Glenn Schembechler, of Worthington in suburban Columbus, was the only son of Bo and Millie Schembechler, the coach's second wife.
Bo Schembechler married Kathryn in 1993. Kathryn didn't have an attorney listed and the phone listing for her in Florida would not accept messages.

Add this to the list of things I never understood about M*ch*gan fans: "We need our coach to be a M*ch*gan Man." Rich Rod never got a fair chance at head coach because he wasn't a "M*ch*gan Man". Think about it: he won 2 more games than the previous year each year he was there. Sure, his first year was so bad that I probably could have improved that record by 2 wins the following season. But he got fired after a 7-win season. Then Hoke, who was a "M*ch*gan Man", went in and got worse by 2 games every year, and HE didn't get fired after a 7-win season. So they held onto the guy because he's a "M*ch*gan Man".

"You DO know that the icon of M*ch*gan head coaches since 1950, Bo Schembechler, was not a "M*ch*gan Man", don't you?"
"Yeah, but he BECAME a M*ch*gan Man while he was here."

I don't buy it.
