[font=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica]The Dolphins re-signed wide receiver David Boston to a one-year contract two months after releasing him for salary-cap reasons.

Boston, 26, originally acquired by the Dolphins on March 18, 2004 from the San Diego Chargers for a 2005 sixth-round draft pick and cornerback Jamar Fletcher, didn't play last season after tearing the patellar tendon in his left knee in training camp.

Boston underwent two surgeries on the knee and was later suspended for the final four games of the season after testing positive under the league's steroid and performance-enhancing substance policy.

Boston denied taking any anabolic steroids, claiming the results had to do with a "related substance." However, he agreed to serve the suspension while he was rehabilitating so he wouldn't have to miss the beginning of the upcoming season. Boston forfeited $1.34 million of his $5.35 million salary.

While rehabilitating his knee in Burlington, Vt., in October, Boston was charged with simple assault for an altercation with an airport ticket agent. Boston later pleaded no contest and the charge was reduced to a misdemeanor.

When Saban released Boston on March 7 after a failed physical, he left the door open for his return. Boston was a Pro Bowl selection in 2001 when he set career highs in receptions (98), yards (1,598) and touchdowns (eight) for Arizona.

"David really appreciated the opportunity to play [here] last year but eventually got injured," said Mitch Frankel, Boston's agent. "After meeting with Coach Saban and seeing what he's trying to do with the running back [Ronnie Brown], David feels part of the whole puzzle and is happy to come back to the Dolphins."

Boston, the eighth pick in the 1999 draft, will attempt to complement a receiving corps that includes Chris Chambers, Marty Booker, Derrius Thompson and tight end Randy McMichael.

To make room for Boston, the Dolphins waived wide receiver Tony Madison, an undrafted free agent.
