BP Fantasy Baseball (2008-2023, Current Champion = MD Buckeye)

I can’t comment. I’ve never done roto. Only the two years of H2H in this league.

Roto is more like real baseball in that talent (and reasonable health) will win out eventually. It's all about the draft and staying healthy. I don't think you can stream pitchers to much avail but maybe.

H2H gives you a lot more randomness. You can absolutely stream pitchers. A team like mine had enough of a punchers chance to win even though about 4-5 guys had, imo, a much better overall team.

I believe that roto is just everybody setting lineups every day, versus no one team in particular and the stats just accumulate throughout the season? At the end, does it just take final position in each stat category, give you an average and then the lowest number wins?

Roto accumulates counting stats and compiles team averages, ERA, etc.. If there are ten teams in the league, the guy with the most saves (for example) gets 10 points for that category while the dude with the fewest gets one point. It's the same for each category. The team with the most points when the music stops wins. There are no playoffs, the game runs the entire regular season.

You can stream pitchers in roto (if there's a decent innings limit) but it's risky. That 2 inning implosion where your streamer gave up 7 runs affects your ERA all season. If that happens in H2H it just screws you for that week.

This was exactly what I was thinking as a reason to switch to roto because it is a different type of challenge. I think there might be a little more skill needed in roto because it is a season long compilation of records and not the one week potential turdfest of a playoffs performance to ruin a season. I am good with either way though if the majority wants to stick with head to head, cool by me.

So nobody has really said much of a definitive answer but I say, fuck it, let’s go roto. I’ve never done it but I’m willing to give it a shot. My only concern is that it takes away the week to week head to head focus. I think it just makes every day the same and there isn’t another team you are going up against. I did really like that part. Starting fresh on a Monday against a new opponent and having a week long matchup.

The best move to make was moving the championship up a bit just to make sure your guys weren’t sitting.

I'm leaning toward keeping it H2H but incorporating more roto style stat categories. Because we have this forum, this league gets some good chatter going with weekly match ups, etc.. I think we'd lose some of that by going full roto.

Thoughts?
