BP Fantasy Baseball (2008-2023, Current Champion = MD Buckeye)

Last years finish works for me but I’m fine with rating level too.

Serious question for those experienced players...

How do you weigh pitching vs hitting in a draft? When do you pass on hitting for pitching and vice versa? Do you think it’s easier to find equivalent hitting later in the draft or equivalent pitching in regards to what you’d pass on earlier?

I find drafting for football much easier in that regard because you’re just going for the guys you know are going to score the highest, often regardless of position and then you just fit it all in. There are no points scored in baseball and I find it tougher to gauge a players true value.

Edit: question about that draft order, actually. If it goes by last years finish and, say, last place drafts first...

That person’s keeper is the first round draft selection, correct? And so forth for the rest of the first round...

With a snake draft, does that mean that the person with the first pick doesn’t actually make a pick until pick 20 (or aka they are still drafting 10th from the pool of draft eligible players?)

This keeper thing is a learning experience. Glad I started this early. Here's the deal:

In order to assign keepers the random draft selection is not an option. I have to assign keepers to a draft spot (just going to put them in the first round), but we're left with a custom draft order.

Trying to think of a basis for the draft order. Suggestions?

Last year's finish?
Yahoo rating levels?

Last years finish

K/9 added. Also added slugging percentage for a similar reason: total bases can be accumulated similarly to strike outs.

Changed OBP against to the more traditional WHIP as well.

Just realized you added K/9 not replaced? Any thought given to just having K/9 then having OPS by combining OBP and SLG?

I vote for random draw. We faced this issue in one of my fantasy football leagues and we did a random draw out of a hat for the draft order. Probably in the minority in that one.

I will reluctantly keep Jacob deGrom.

I have no problem with a random draw but it's kind of impractical for us to draw numbers out of a hat.

So I am commish of a league of my fraternity brother friends and they wanted a random draw, but didn’t like knowing where they were picking 30 minutes before the draft when Yahoo randomly assigns the pick. So three or four days before our draft, I recorded my daughter picking names out of a hat for the draft order and posting it in our group text thread. It was a cool way of doing it. Not that I would expect you to go to that level for us guys!

That's a good idea, but I don't have any kids and no one wants to see my old ass doing it.

I'm seeing last year's finish for draft order more than anything else so I think we'll go with that.

Post your keepers here. It's easier than trying to find them on Yahoo to attach to our draft picks.

Add deGrom, Trea Turner, and Acuna to that list.

Still need keepers for Wahoos Encore, Logjammin, and Elizabeth Resolutes.

Still have no idea who was on my roster at end of last year. Guess I'll need to go to library and get on the desktop version of Yahoo sports since the app wants to be difficult
