BP has two tickets to the Alamo Bowl for you?

Are you still expecting to get some donations in the mail or has everyone that said they were going to participate already sent you thier money... the reason I ask is I would've thought we would be able to come up with a little more than that. I know I didn't send much so I'm not complaining because 340.00 is great but we have a lot of members on this board and I know some people have sent more than the "required" 10.00.

Like I've said before Clarity, I think you should keep a paypal icon somewhere on the board at all times. I never know when I'm gonna have extra money and I'm sure there are others here in the same situation. I guess what I'm saying is that I'd like to be able to just send 10 or 20 bucks here and there whenever I have it instead of not being able to when you have the spring and autumn drives or events like this one.

By the way, There was another poster who said that he/she would auction off the tickets to the highest BP bidder and give the money to Clarity if he/she won the raffle. I think that's a great idea and well, since I wouldn't be able to go if I win I think I will do the same and the "winner" could just paypal Clarity.

Final total is $390.00. All entries have been assigned ticket numbers, all those have been PM'd out to the users who are participating. I've got the sheet all set, have the random number generator on another site ready to go. I'll draw a number and announce it here at 6.

Ugh. I just edited and therefore lost the old message that was here explaining the process, and overwrote it with this one. Don't mind me. Drawing is still at 6. Thanks to all.

If that's you, let me know here or over PM and I'll check it. If I don't hear from anyone over the next few hours, I'll cross check the two spreadsheets and figure it out on this end, then announce the winner here.

how much do you expect the new server to cost clarity??

Well, I don't really know. I'm hoping to pick the brains of a couple IS/IT-minded people around here if I can find them, to help determine what the site needs, and what the best/most cost effective way to get that is.

I know RAM is the biggest issue, we need 8GB, or up to 12GB if we're forward thinking aggressively.

Dual processor probably, but that's less of an issue than the RAM. The site doesn't require a ton of drive space. It's on a trio of 15k RPM 18GB drives now, configured in some RAID format that results in the sum total of the available space to just be 18GB.

FreeBSD, so no cost there.

Standard rack mount chassis. Not sure on the network interface but that's usually a minor issue.

Loading something like that out at Dell.com, you come up with a pretty damn scary number. But something like this probably isn't best acquired that way. A better bet is probably buying piecemeal, then having someone with a clue assemble and burn in. That's how the current server was handled for the company that purchased it 4 years ago.

C-Dog, you could get away with a dual-processor (2.8Ghz), 2GB system, especially now that many systems have 800Mhz front end buses. The server that hosts our 200MB Access (that's right, Access, not SQL) database is a dual-processor (1Ghz each), 4GB system, with a 400Mhz bus, and it gets hit as hard or harder than your current one. RAID drives with 36GB disks aren't that expensive either.

I just priced the following Dell system at $3,874:

- Dual Intel® Xeon™ processor at 2.8GHz/1MB, 800MHz Front Side Bus
- Windows 2003 Small Business Server, Standard Edition
- 2GB DDR2 400MHz (4X512MB), Single Ranked DIMMs
- Tower Chassis Orientation
- 3-drive RAID5 (3x36GB)

This is with no keyboard, mouse, or monitor (I assume you may have some older ones lying around). How does this compare with your current server (aside from the 18GB drives)?
