BP Poker Tournament/Fundraiser

BP Poker Tournament/Fundraiser (Texas Hold 'Em)

This is a private message that I sent to a hand full of members late Friday afternoon. I wanted to get a good feel for how much interest there would be in such an event before presenting it to the public. The response I received was positive so I figure it's time to move forward. If you weren't one of the original members that I PM'ed this to, please don't take it to mean anything, I just wanted to get the ball rolling as soon as possible. <O:p</O:p

Hello everyone,

We're getting ready for another spring fund raising drive (as I'm sure some of you are aware.) and I would like to set up something where we can all get together for a little fun, while at the same time raise money for a very important person. As I’m sure most of you know by now, Clarity (the founder of Buckeyeplanet for those who are unfamiliar with him) has been ill for some time, and things are only getting worse for him and his family. They were recently forced to sell their home in Florida and move into a much smaller house here in Ohio to be closer to family members. While his health continues to deteriorate finances have become an issue. Clarity has spent countless hours of his own time and money to give us a community that is free of membership costs and advertisements. It is past time that everyone gives something back. We’ve all benefited from BP’s existence in one way or another, think about how much work we all would have had to do if Buckeyeplanet weren’t around or where you would have gotten all of your buckeye info without having to pay for a membership.

I would like to have a BP Poker Tournament with a $20 or $30 buy in. All buy-ins will be directly paid out to the 1st-3rd place finishers. In order to keep this a legal game of poker the house will not take a cut. Hopefully the winners of the night will donate a portion or all of their winnings to the BP fund. Food will be donated and catered in. Cost should be around $10 a person with all of the money from the food sales going directly to BP. This will also be a B.Y.O.B event. We’ve already arranged for a place to have the gathering. I think that with a lot of us becoming more than just "internet friends" this could be a pretty big event and bring in a lot of necessary money. I urge all of you to join in and invite as many others as possible. If you have any suggestions please let me know. I want to get the ball rolling on this as soon as possible.

At this time I need to get a general idea of those interested. Please PM me with your thoughts.

Additionally, please forward this PM this to anyone that I may have left off the list that you think would be interested. I would kind of like to keep this as quiet as possible so that Clarity does not get wind of what’s going on.

Thanks for reading,

Since writing this private message we have decided to hold the tournament the weekend after the spring game, which would be Saturday April 29th at 3979 Parkway Ln. Hilliard, Ohio 43026. Dinner will start at around 6:00PM with the tournament beginning at 7:00pm sharp. <O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

The location of the tournament is very convenient and is near I-270 and a Motel 6 is within walking distance should anyone need to get a room for the evening.<O:p</O:p

We still need help with setting up the event, so if anyone is interested please PM me. I will probably be there at 2:00 or so to begin getting everything in order. We also need decks of cards and poker chips. If anyone knows of a place to get those very cheap or of anyone who can donate, that would be great.<O:p</O:p

I would like to make it clear that this is not a BP members only event, and everyone is welcome. It is important however that everyone understands what we are trying to accomplish with this event, and that it is encouraged but not mandatory that you donate some or all of your winnings if you win.

Everyone,

I understand that all of this is a little short notice, but I need to have an R.S.V.P list by this week that way we can get all of the food ordered. If at all possible, let me know in this thread or by PM if you can make it and if you are bringing anyone with you. Those of you who have already returned a PM from my original invitaion, please confirm that you are going to be there either by PM or in this thread.

Thanks everyone.

I am working with my calendar as we speak (the fiance). With my wedding 2 months away I just have to make sure there is nothing already planned that day. If not... I AM THERE!

EDIT - After reading it a second time, if I can make it I have about 20 deck of cards I can bring and I do have 1,000 poker chips. Will PM SIMV after I determine if I am 100% coming.
