BPRT's Recap of the Class of 2014

Are you basing your opinion off of McLaurin's JR year film, or have you seen his SR year film yet?

I mean, if a guy that is a state's Mr. Football is a reach, that probably says more about the class that we just brought in rather than McLaurin's talent.

Yes, I've seen his SR film. It reminds me of James Jackson's. Straight-lined speed and not much else. I'm definitely not saying he can't be a good, even great, player but he has a lot to work on. Luckily he has the work ethic to do it.

Can't issues be attached to all of the WRs we've broight in? His route running seemed good enough to get an offer, he will probably need a redshirt, but I think guys like parris Campbell and Noah brown are bigger reaches than mclaurin. Neither has a defined position, but at least mclaurin knows his position but needs to work on fine tuning his body and route running. I think next to all true frosh need polish, that's what makes them freshman. I don't see him as a project, IMO

When I see McLaurin's film it reminds me of Devin Smith's in a way. Smith's speed was unquestionable, but he showed little ability to make YACs and all his routes (all from the receiver position) were outside the hashes. McLaurin's film is quite similar. Obviously Smith has been relatively productive, but I don't think anyone, at least at this point, would call him a great receiver. Great athlete? Absolutely. Great receiver? No. If McLaurin was a step slower, would his receiving abilities have gotten him an OSU scholarship? Doubtful. If McLaurin wants to become a receiver rather than rely on his athleticism, then he can become a star, but he's a long way from that right now.

I totally agree about Campbell and Brown (although if Brown is going to be an h-back, that is less of a concern). I'd put James Clark and even Jalin Marshall in the category of tremendous speed or athleticism and raw receiver skills. Right now, I'd say only Corey Smith and Johnnie Dixon have some refined receiving skills from the last two classes. The others need a lot of work to get to that point. They may, they may not, which is why I would label them projects (as wide receivers).

Biggest impact this year
Offense-Dixon, I believe he will be starting halfway through the season at the latest. He has it all besides height. He's great at creating seperation. He is great at blocking down field which trait seems to take precedence above anything else for UFM. Early enrollee to refine a already stacked body.

Defense-Obviously Kwon.

Got to witness a HS football practice in Junequ a few years back. Less than 12 kids in uniform and they were practicing on a blacktop field.
OT, a softball team from Alaska went to a national tournament and got killed in all the night games. They had never played under lights. If it was warm enough to play softball in Alaska, there was 20 plus hours of sunlight
