Brady Quinn (Fox CFB Analyst)

For any Brady Quinn fans...

Just wondering if anyone in the Dublin area knows why Brady Quinn went to Coffman rather than Watterson. I'm assuming that Brady's family is Irish "green" rather than Ulster "orange." Did it have anything to do with the kind of wing offense Watterson traditionally runs...or was it for some other reason?

he was a rock/shamrock. brady was a notre dame fan since he was little. the reality is dublin schools are as good or better than columbus catholic schools.
Sorry to disagree, jimotis4heisman....Watterson's academic program is exceptional. Sure hope you really are a Jim Otis fan, though. I know Jim and his wife, Jan, and am fortunate to have taught both of his sons at Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis. Go Bucks!

I have no idea why he went where, but there was an article in today's Grand Rapids paper stating he should be a candidate for the Heisman. I did not realize he threw for over 440 yards last night. Glad he is doing so well.

If kids live in a district w/ a high powered public program, which also has excellent avcademics, it is much harder to convince the parents to send their kids to Catholic school. AJ Hawk is Catholic, and played pee-wee ball w/ Nick Mangold, but Nick chose to become an Alter Knight and Hawk went to Centerville.

We mostly ran the power I when I played at Coffman. The coach that came in there after I left changed the offense and ever since then sent a QB to Georgia Tech, Notre Dame and there was a kid recuited a couple years back that was solid also.

I'd like to argue about that, but I cannot. I grew up in a city where the public schools were average in academics and sports. I went to Catholic schools and if you wanted to play at a competitive level you did the same thing.

the dublin schools are debatedly one of the best in the state. bishop watterson isnt what it was 15-20 years ago.

the qb i think you mean is rafferty, he rewrote the coffman record books. smaller (6 ftish) and fast. recruited as a db for some mac caliber schools but that all ended when he was driven into the turf by scioto in the state playoffs and destroyed his shoulder. i have no idea where he ended up or what he is up to.

Just a Catholic high school teacher

Maybe the only person who can truly answer my original question is Brady himself....In my 30 years as a Catholic high school teacher, though, I've always lamented circumstances (e.g. finances, transportation, family size, family dysfunction, etc.) that prevented a Catholic kid from attending a Catholic school. I do not know (but I certainly doubt) that any of those circumstances prevented Brady from attending Bishop Watterson.

For whatever it's worth, however....being Irish, being Catholic, and even attending Catholic school do not necessarily lead one to the Golden Dome. I've been bleeding scarlet and gray since my playground days at Holy Name on E. Patterson and Adams. Go Bucks!!!!:oh: :io:

Did some checking on "Bishop Watterson isn't what it used to be..."

School profile: Dublin schools (Coffman, Scioto, Jerome)
2003 SAT score......1098 verbal/math cumulative average
2004 ACT score......586 students......23.7 cumulative average

School profile: Bishop Watterson
2004 SAT score......247 students.....1124 verbal/math cumulative average
2004 ACT score......215 students......24.5 cumulative average
[Students completing core] 138.......25.6 cumulative average

From such statistics, jimotis4heisman, it appears that Bishop Watterson is more than competitive with all three Dublin public schools. That goes for academic scholarships to OSU, Notre Dame, etc.
