So, who replaces Groce?

Coach Thad Matta has had low turnover on his staffs at Xavier and Ohio State. He brought three assistants with him when he moved from Xavier to OSU in 2004, and when Brandon Miller left for Butler last year, Matta replaced him with Archie Miller, the younger brother of Sean Miller, who was Matta?s top assistant at Xavier and now the Musketeers? head coach.
Now, Matta must replace his right-hand man again. John Groce, who replaced Sean Miller in the pecking order when Matta moved to Ohio State, will be named coach at Ohio University on Friday. Who replaces him?

Dan Peters could return to a coaching position. He lost his coaching job and took a hefty pay cut when Archie Miller was hired last year. Peters was named associate director of basketball operations, a position in which he can?t do any on-court coaching.
I wonder why Peters had to take a pay cut just so Thad could bring Archie Miller in as an assistant coach. That seems strange to me. I would have to think that it Peters wants to coach again Matta would bring him back on staff. It is really not like he even left the staff IMO

Just from reading various articles, my best guess would be Brandon Miller who is currently an assistant coach at Butler and play PG for Matta when he coached there. He also was an assistant coach here for three years before going back to Butler. This would be a big step up for him IMO

Miller will likely fill vacancy on Matta's staff

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

For eight years, as Thad Matta climbed the coaching ladder, he could count on John Groce being by his side.

Now, he can't.

The Ohio State men's basketball coach lost his top assistant yesterday when Ohio University hired Groce to be its head coach.

"Obviously, it's going to be a little different because he's been with me from day one," Matta said. "But you always know as a head coach that if you get the right guys on your staff, those things are going to happen.
"Now we have the opportunity to watch another member of our family go out and spread his wings. And I know he's going to do a great job."

According to a source close to the OSU program, Matta is expected to re-hire Brandon Miller to fill the vacancy on his staff. Miller played for Matta at Butler and worked under him at Xavier and Ohio State. Miller was OSU's director of basketball operations for two years and served as video coordinator in 2006-07 before returning to Butler as an assistant coach last season.

Matta would say only that Miller was a candidate for the job.
"We've got a great feel for what we want to do," Matta said. "I knew in my mind this day was coming. We'll continue to move forward, and hopefully, we don't miss a beat."

Miller did not return phone messages the past two days.

The summer recruiting period begins July 6, but Matta said it wasn't essential for the new assistant to be hired by then.

One good thing may be that since both Archie Miller and Brandon Miller are relatively young, they can stay at Thad's side for maybe a longer period of time while they get experience (less staff turnover).

OSU coach Thad Matta stayed within his coaching family with the hire, bringing back Miller, 29, after his one-year stint as an assistant coach at Butler. Miller played for Matta at Butler, had a pretty memorable senior season after Matta went to Xavier, then served on the OSU staff for three seasons as director of basketball operations and video coordinator. His move to Butler was a way to gain experience as a full-time assistant and prepare him for a return like

Butler is becoming the Miami (OH) of Basketball. As we all know, Miami is known for producing great coaches, lately Butler has had its share of getting its coaches to the bigger named squads.

Awesome pull by Matta. Gotta love his decisions for our basketball program.
