Brandon Wimbush (QB Notre Dame, transfer to UCF)

What is not to like in that film? I think Wimbush is severely underrated. Really solid reads in the option game and speed/athleticism to burn...that much is obvious. Also really love his footwork and his ability to get set and step into his throws. Plenty of pop on his short-intermediate throws and really puts nice touch on deeps balls. The throw at 1:53 shows incredible arm strength and was right on the money off of his back foot. Can get the ball out of his hand really quickly when necessary. I really love how he always keeps his head down field and looks to throw first...really decisive when he knows he has to run though. Just outstanding pocket presence and he is not afraid to take a hit by stepping into his throw and completing the pass.

Seriously, I might prefer Wimbush to Gibson, although I do not think it comes down to that. Regardless, I really, really want to see Wimbush in this class...he would fit like a glove in our offense.

This is what I posted last week about Wimbush, and I think it's pretty close to what Alex is thinking. Basically, Ohio State is where Wimbush wanted to go early in the process, and with all the reasons and people pushing him to Penn State, he's still not committed when everyone is jumping on board? Why?

Heart/Head.

Brandon Wimbush, if you recall, was very close to committing to Ohio State back in December. He decided, when rumors of James Franklin taking over Penn State began to swirl, to delay things a bit. Since then, the scuttlebutt has been almost exclusively Nittany Lion-based for Wimbush, but he's not committed anywhere yet. Why not?

Here's why: Wimbush won't commit until he's made it back to Ohio State, at least that's what he told me on Sunday. I found that interesting on a number of levels, but at the end of the day here's what I've always felt about Wimbush: Ohio State is is the place he wanted to be the most, and since then it's been nothing but "Penn State this, Penn State that." Like a number of key players, the decision is head versus heart, and I think Wimbush's "heart" has been with the Buckeyes since his visit last fall.

Most recruits go with their heart, but there's a ton of pressure trying to keep Wimbush and the New Jersey pipeline headed to Happy Valley. Wimbush is, and has been, a priority for Ohio State and he is absolutely not a "fall back" option to Torrance Gibson.

While he's not giving up on this weekend's attempted visit, it seems unlikely to happen. Another trip will have to be worked out for the nation's 7th-ranked quarterback. He could couple that visit with some on-the-field business.

"I'm going to have to try for another weekend," he said if this one doesn't work. "I just can't say when as of right now. I was thinking about the weekend of the NFTC and Elite 11 in Columbus."

Fun to compare Wimbush's film to Gibson's.

I was very surprised to see that Wimbush is as quick as Gibson; not as fast, but just as quick. Kid has real good balance and is a north south type, he won't be scrambling around side to side much. Was very impressed with his feel for the game and fundamentals. Seems very comfortable in the pocket, shows good balance and patience. He clearly has received some great coaching.

Ball flies out of his hand; def not a long strider. He doesn't "wow" as an athlete like Torrance though, not the type I expect to be a threat to break out a 60 yard run on a whim. With a little more weight on him you could really open up the playbook with Brandon and would be the best passer Urban has recruited to OSU if he commits.

I think in the end, Urban prefers the uber athlete over the advanced passer but you'd love to take either/both. I see why @RB07OSU may prefer Brandon; the offense could really develop and evolve in a different way with him at the helm.

I was just about to post in the Gibson thread but that is my exact same read. Wimbush doesn't have the star-power plays of Gibson but he is a better QB prospect at this point...lots of question marks with Gibson at QB, the sky is the limit but the floor could also be low in terms of Gibson as a passer. But that is exactly why I would love to have both in this class if possible, gives us a sure thing one way or the other imo. But to beat a dead horse, I was also shocked how advanced Wimbush's mechanics and presence were...kid should be a borderline 5 star in my eyes.

Ohio State's 2015 QB target Power Rankings - Brandon Wimbush is the priority right now: Buckeyes recruiting

13350138-mmmain.jpg

The last two long-term starting quarterbacks at Ohio State were elite prospects in their respective recruiting classes. First was Terrelle Pryor, perhaps one of the most recognizable high school prospects of the last decade, then came Braxton Miller.

Now that Miller is entering his senior season, it's crucial for Ohio State to land another dynamic playmaker to be the next in line. So the 2015 recruiting class must have a game-changing quarterback as a centerpiece.

So where does Ohio State stand in that quest?

That often can be tricky to decipher, but an efficient way of organizing the targets is by using power rankings. Following are Ohio State's top targets – in order of importance – and the prospect at the top may surprise you.

1. Brandon Wimbush, Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep – There's a reason Wimbush was one of the first 2015 quarterbacks to earn an Ohio State scholarship, and now that he could be making a decision within the next month, the Buckeyes have moved him to the front of the line. Wimbush hasn't always earned as much attention from the media as other targets, but let's make something clear - Ohio State wants him ... bad.

Rated by Rivals.com a four-star prospect and the No. 6 pro-style quarterback in the class, Wimbush is also considering Penn State, Boston College, Miami (Fla.) and Virginia Tech, but a visit to Ohio State could be coming up in the next few weeks. The timing couldn't be better, especially considering some feel as if he's leaning toward the Nittany Lions. During that visit the Buckeyes will stress to him that they want - or perhaps a better word is need – him in the class.

Ohio State only has two commitments in the 2015 class, and adding a leader like Wimbush in the next few weeks could jumpstart it. But earning a commitment from a coveted quarterback is the top priority, and the Buckeyes are doing everything they can to achieve that with Wimbush. Right now, he's Ohio State's focus.

Funny how this thing called recruiting works, it seemed like we had moved on from Brandon a few months ago and were moving more towards Gibson, then the coaches let it be known Brandon was one of the top priorities all along. Would love to get Brandon for his talent and to stick it to Franklin and Ped St and get this 2015 class rolling.

The fans moved on to Gibson. Urban and company have not. IMO the plan was always a QB in the late spring or summer, pursue Gibson till the end.

I think some (and I fall victim to this myself) see a lack of updates as a lack of interest. Things were quiet on his front but the staff has been working hard. To date, the PSU commits we've "lost" really have not been a big deal. However, I think it is critical to beat them for Wimbush.

I agree with those who have said that Wimbush not joining the rush to the Franklin "restore the glory! you can play immediately because we're awful and have no depth!" hype train is a good sign for Ohio State.
