Braxton Miller vs. Devin Gardner (complete with hyperbole!!!!1!!1!)

I hope he's joking with that last comment.

Braxton has played a brutal schedule so far, but the kid is still putting up great numbers. Duane Long said he is the best player he has ever seen in Ohio. And he is only a junior.

180 YPG (140 passing, 40 rushing), 45% completion percentage, 8 TDs, 7 Turnovers.

How many sites are you going to copy and paste that?

I think he's just pointing out that the hyperbole on Braxton is a tad bit ridiculous. Which you have to admit, it is.

Braxton is a great talent for sure, but people need to chill out in regards to him.

Why's that? The film says it all.

If you just look at his stats, sure, not mind blowing.

But what was Matt Barkley's as a senior? 23 TD's to 18 INT's.

What were Matt Ryan's at BC? Not very impressive.

Ignore the stats, watch the film.

My point is that the hype people are starting to give him is reaching Justin Zwick type levels, yet the production is just not there. Now granted, his first three games came against TOP LEVEL competition, but still, I would like to see a little more from him first. Then again, if UofM, tOSU and others offered him day one, he is definitely a talent.

I think a good example this year is Montana. He gets a ton of hype because of who is father is and because of his high school. :osu: should be happy that they got Graham instead, who is a much better QB than Montana.

IMHO, Trey DePriest, Chris Rock, Steve Miller and Ken Hayes are all better prospects for tOSU than Braxton.

Then again, being a Michigan fan, maybe I'm just bitter that we won't even get a look.

Bad comparisons.

Barkley wasn't being hyped as much by the California recruiting "gurus" as much as Braxton is getting hyped by people from Ohio first of all.

Barkley wasn't completing 45% of his passes either. He was in the mid 60% range, which is what you expect. Barkley also had a terrific JR year where he really put up some monster stats and completed like 70% of his passes. Braxton's JR year he completed around 50% of his passes before he went down with the injury.

The film tells me exactly what I thought about Braxton before I knew of his stats. He's very talented, but he's pretty raw and people need to chill.

Ummmm...no.

Clausen was the most hyped prospect maybe ever.

Barkley was rated high, very high, but he wasn't rated as the #1 overall player by Scout or Rivals or Tom Lemming.

Clausen was rated as the #1 rated player by all 3.

Rivals and Tom Lemming tried to say that Clausen as a HS JR was better than anybody in the HS SR class.

I suggest you go back and read a lot of those articles.

Barkley was also number one for a huge portion of the time the rankings were out IIRC.

I guess I just don't see how you can claim the number one QB recruit in the country who committed to USC didn't get a lot of hype compared to Braxton.

Yeah, spot on. Here are Barkley's recruiting ratings:

Rivals: 5*, #1 pro-style QB, #1 in California, #5 nationally
Scout: 5*, #1 QB, #1 in California, #2 nationally
ESPN: 93/100, #1 QB, #1 in California, #1 nationally

Yep, Barkley got no hype at all.... :roll2:

BTW, it turns out that the hype was deserved, but Barkley was still one of the most hyped prospects EVER.

Something tells me that if Braxton were a Michigan lean right now, then you wouldn't be too "chill" about his potential.

Nobody in California was claiming that Barkley was the best HS player to ever come out of California or the best in 25 years. Or that he was the best QB to ever come out of California.

I HAVE seen people make those claims about Braxton. I have seen people say things like Braxton is the best HS player in Ohio ever and other ridiculous things of that nature.

There were a number who said he was better than clausen. Acting as though 'best evar' hype is rare in this day and age simply doesn't make much sense... how many best ever claims have we had in this decade alone? Two, with UF as a possible third?

barkley also received the 'best qb in 07 regardless of class' quote a few times.
I HAVE seen people make those claims about Braxton.
Ohio is a terrible state for producing blue-chip QB recruits.
I have seen people say things like Braxton is the best HS player in Ohio ever
First of all, who cares? Second of all, experts are hailing him as arguably the best QB ever, not player. I'm sure we'll get some links to message boards as though those matter...

His recruiting hype was nothing compared to Clausen's, or even Vince Young's.

And again, nobody from California was calling Barkley the best CA prospect ever or the best prospect out of CA in 25 years.

People from Ohio ARE saying that kind of hyperbole about Braxton though.

Braxton isn't a Michigan lean and even if he was I would be saying the same things I am right now. He's got tons of talent but he's raw, and people need to chill out on the "best ever from Ohio" stuff.
