Brent Musberger (official thread)

Musberger: Love him or hate him?

Some of my finest Buckeye memories involve Musberger calling games. So many beyond Holy Buckeye. I can still quote the lines in my head.

"LETS PARTY COLUMBUS"
"Breaking free - headed for the endzone, Chris Wells"
"Great fake, GINN! Touchdown!"

I always viewed Brett as kind of a pro-Buckeye. You could hear the excitement in his voice when calling the games. I can't speak for anyone else, but I feel like I've lost a part of my childhood.

Brent Musberger announces his retirement at age 77. Holy Buckeye! :gagnam:

I know there were discussions earlier about which was the most important play in our 2002 season, and this is unquestionably it. Without this play, we lose the game and none of the others that get mentioned (MoC's strip of Sean Taylor, etc.) would've even happened.

Used to hate him, but now I'm indifferent. His deal has been that he's loud and bandwagons whatever team's winning incessantly, but as he's aged he's become somewhat less loud and incessant IMO. The bandwagoning's also not nearly as irritating now that OSU is kicking UM's ass every year.

Of course, if I have to listen to Paul Maguire any more, my vote could change to "want to have Musberger's baby" by comparison.

Quoting my own ten-year old post, fans are a lot more irritable and prone to notice the announcers when their team is losing, so I think that Musberger's momentum-based bandwagoning is why everyone seems to think that he hates their team. They remember him bandwagoning the team that kicks their team's ass but don't really notice him bandwagoning their team when it's doing the ass kicking. Without checking, I would assume that Wisconsin fans really hate Gus Johnson.

P.S., Isn't it beautiful that I mentioned OSU's kicking Um's ass every year back in 2007 and it's still true today?

He did (and probably still does) have a history of sports betting:

Brent Musburger Warns First-Time Sports Bettors to ‘Be Careful’
July 25, 2018
Brent Musburger, the famed broadcaster who’s long had a penchant for gambling on sports, is warning newbies to “be careful” as they walk into a legal casino sportsbook.

Brent Musburger says people shouldn’t expect to get rich off sports betting. In fact, they should expect to lose over the long term.

In early 2017, Musburger announced he was retiring from television after a 44-year broadcasting career in order to pursue a sports gambling information network in Las Vegas. With the wagering activity now expanding to states across the country, the icon is telling first-timers to educate themselves before placing a bet.
