Brenton Cox Jr. (Dismissed DL Georgia Bulldogs, transfer to Florida)

Oh it's a big loss! We now have no DEs(right now) in this class. The fsct that Cox could see the field in year 1 shows that we don't have as much depth as this year.

Idk if one visit did it. Bama and UGA have been in his ear all year. And what also adds to the fact is that he has friends committed to both teams who've been in his ear even more than the coaches. This was always an uphill battle
Knew it was over when he said he had some friends going to Georgia and hadn't really bonded with anyone going to OSU. It says something when a kid is committed for that long and doesn't bond with the other recruits in his class.

And what's wrong with that, locking in a place? If the coaches offer you are doing a non-binding acceptance. Everyone in the game understands this is a possibility, and if you are at OSU you know that every single Southern commit you get is going to be a 'hang on until NSD' commit.

A lot can change in a short amount of time - for many, distance becomes more and more of an issue as decision day looms. They're high school kids, let's accept that. Coaches push kids out all the time....I'm fine with this, I hope Brenton finds the best fit for him and best of luck to the kid, all signs point to him being an excellent person and he deserves this opportunity.
No problem with decommiting but this late is just a bad look. There's a reason he was committed for what 9 months? Now he's going committ and sign somewhere else in the next 2 weeks? Screwing over our staff in the along the way.

The timing is my issue but whatever. Could've been a big part of our run next year.

This is not 'this late' - late Jan, early Feb. is late. During coaching change time, this is normal.

Staff wasn't screwed over; they knew it'd be hard to hold him and that's why they have had their backup options identified and recruited for many, many months.

Bama losing to Auburn hurt OSU. If Bama wins, Brenton likely never visits, as the Tide would've been in the SEC Championship Game & unable to host him for an official visit. OSU was also holding out to host Brenton for his last official visit. Did that hurt the Bucks as well? Probably... kid from the south with plenty in his ear tempting him to stay close to home. If the Buckeyes brought him up for an official earlier, could this end up differently? Who knows....
Bamas ability to make it into the playoffs as a non-division winner over a B1G champ can also be used to it advantage. All they have to do is play in the SEC, wear Bama jersey's, and not totally screw up and they get to play for all the marbles.

It is what it is. Hes a kid though, I find it worse when a coach leaves and doesn't finish out a season and leaves not only recruits but their own team high and dry.

This is Brenton's decision, and we should've seen this in the back of our minds for a while.

Early signing period is December which is when he will sign... we were screwed.

Dude....we're not screwed. There is still the traditional NSD which is when the majority of players will sign. They have been in on numerous DE's for over a year in expectation of something like this happening. I repeat....not.a.big.deal.they.aren't.surprised.by.this.

If you think OSU was blind sided by this and did not have plans in place for this, you think OSU lives in a cave. This happens every single year, and it may happen again to us soon. This is normal.

Oh we will be fine but I'm saying yeah he kinda did us dirty and screwed us. I never said we were screwed as far as doomed on the field. I get it guys he's a teenager and a kid but geez it's so late in the process to be changing your mind.

My thing is there was a reason why he was committed for so long and it's amazing to me that that can be thrown away essentially in 1 night because he wants to be with friends at Georgia.

Again I never said we were screwed now when it comes to performing on the field. Just don't commit if you aren't sure that's my point.

Let's not act as if Cox screwed over the staff. The staff are smart, and I am sure they suspected for a while. I am sure they anticipated this.
Only that he did screw them over but it's just the name of the beast and I'm sure the staff is very callus to these types of things by now. I'm not mad at the kid but I must admit I don't like the "oh well kids will be kids" approach either.

I knew what I was doing at 17-18 and so do these recruits. As I said Oh well I'm sure the staff has had a backup plan as you said ant.

Every school has backup plans for every single player. Some schools tell you that you are a "second" choice, some don't. I know personally how you can feel like you were "screwed", Cooper did it to me. I am not worried at all about tOSU finding a backup, since I am 100% sure they have had more than one the whole time like they do every player every year.

Recruiting is a dirty business on both sides. You have to watch out for yourself. Things happen. Circumstances change on both sides of the fence. Cox could have been shown the door at the last minute just as easily as he decommitted. See Bama a couple of years ago, 3 stars were doomed even though they had committed months earlier.
