Brooklyn Nets (official thread)

So I saw my first NBA game in over 35 years last week, and watched the Nets make the Sacramento Kings their own sweet little bitches. Observations:

1. Jimmer Fredette has no business being in the League.

2. Robin Lopez has incredible athleticism for a man his height (7-ft) and also great basketball IQ. Really fun to watch him, even though he only played about 14 minutes.

3. DeMarcus Cousins of the Kings is really talented, strong and determined. But he's a blockhead.

4. Deron Williams - never saw it coming what a great pro point guard he would be.

5. The Brooklyn arena is nowhere near as nice as Nationwide Arena, and I think it cost about 3x as much. Columbus sports fans, appreciate what a rare treasure we have here.

6. NBA basketball is a hell of a good time in person. If we had a team here it would draw better than the Blue Jackets, no question.

Kevin Durant plans 4-year, $198M extension with Brooklyn Nets, manager says

Kevin Durant plans to sign a four-year, $198 million maximum contract extension with the Brooklyn Nets sometime after he becomes eligible Saturday, his longtime business manager and co-founder of Thirty Five Ventures and Boardroom, Rich Kleiman, told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Durant is expected to decline his 2022-23 player option and extend off of his $42 million salary for the 2021-22 season.

Kyrie Irving is apparently refusing to be vaccinated against COVID-19. The Nets have banned him from team activities while unvaccinated. He would stand to lose at least $16 million from this season, and possibly a lot more. Having publicly espoused the belief that Earth is flat, Kyrie also being anti-vaxx is hardly a surprise.

I'd inject Velveeta cheese into my veins for 200M

Hell yeah, and I know from personnel experience that taking some of this shit each night would solve any "hard poop" side effects too:

Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News provided clarification that Irving's entry into the league's health and safety protocols is an indication that he has returned a COVID-19 test result that is positive or inconclusive.

Plant-Based COVID Vaccine? Canadian Drug Maker Says It Works
Some speculate such a vaccine, which the company says is effective, could lure Nets star Kyrie Irving, who has a plant-based diet, back to the team; he's been out since refusing to comply with NYC's vaccine mandate
https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/cor...ne-canadian-drug-maker-says-it-works/3442386/

A Canadian drugmaker said its plant-based COVID-19 vaccine showed strong protection against the virus and will soon seek authorization at home and elsewhere.

Medicago announced Tuesday that its two-dose vaccine was 71% effective at preventing COVID-19 infection in a large, late-stage study that included several variants including the delta variant. The company’s results did not include the emerging omicron variant, which wasn’t circulating during the study period.

The Quebec City company said it will seek Canadian approval “imminently” and has also begun the process to file with regulators in the U.S., U.K. and other countries. The company is also preparing to send its data to the World Health Organization.

Medicago uses plants as living factories to grow virus-like particles, which mimic the spike protein that coats the coronavirus. British partner GlaxoSmithKline contributes an immune-boosting chemical called an adjuvant to the vaccine.

According to multiple reports, such a vaccine could lure Nets' star point guard Kyrie Irving back to the team. He has been out since refusing to comply with Mayor Bill de Blasio's vaccine mandate.

Irving never said exactly why he refused existing vaccines, but Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson of Bally Sports suggested he might be swayed to take a plant-based COVID-19 vaccine considering his diet is “100% plant-based,” according to AMNY.

While numerous COVID-19 vaccines have been rolled out around the world, global health authorities are looking to additional candidates in hopes of increasing the supply in developing countries.

As the omicron variant spreads, experts have warned that the coronavirus will continue to thrive as long as vast parts of the world aren't vaccinated.

The Medicago study involved 24,000 adult volunteers who received either the vaccine or a dummy shot and were followed to track COVID-19 infections and complications. They received two shots three weeks apart.

The company said no serious safety issues were detected and common side effects like fever or fatigue were “mild to moderate” and resolved in three days or less. The results were released in a press statement and have not yet been independently vetted by experts.
