Browns +1.5 at Oakland (ov/un 45.5) Sun 4:xx

The Browns are now 4-8. Of the 8 losses, 6 have been by 7 points or less. I really think they are one good off-season from being a competitive team.

They need to lose though in order to get higher picks. I support the Browns (for what reason I have no idea). But let's get some higher picks and more talent/ more trade bait for a better team. This team is not making the playoffs so...

Agree. I hope Heckert has another draft with the Browns.

Eagles, Colts, and Cowboys are easily 3 games that could have gone the other way. But teams that don't know how to win, have been mired in a culture of losing, lose those games, like the Browns did.

Which is exactly why I don't understand the thinking of "wanting" losses for draft purposes. A win like today, even if it was against a crappy Oakland team, can go a long way in helping change the losing culture. Hell, in the 4th quarter, Oakland with the ball about 8 minutes to go and down by 3 points, we have all seen too many times how the Browns find a way to lose. Then folks quip the typical negative crap about the Browns finding ways to lose. But today, that didn't happen. Interception by the old man Sheldon Brown and the Browns take over on their own 5 yard line. Then march 95 yards, eat up about 6 minutes on the clock and get Oakland to burn through their timeouts, well that was a good sign to me and what I want to see from the Browns.

Losing is contagious and finding ways to lose shows that. Winning is contagious as well and frankly, I would like to see the Browns win as many games as they can the next 4 weeks. Establishing a winning mentality, or at least mitigating the losing mentality, is more important than draft positioning at this time.

Everything buckiprof just said x1000. This team is so used to losing, that they need to win now and in any way that they can. One higher draft pick (with our particular needs) is not going to take us from a 5 win team to a 10 win team or even a genuine contender. It takes a lot more than a top 5 pick to create a culture of winning and the number one thing that does help constitute that winning attitude is just knowing how good it feels, and getting used to it. We have too many needs to be saved by one high pick. We need to draft intelligently regardless of slotting and find ways to close opponents out in the 4th and be the team that finds ways to win in the crunch, instead of being on the losing end.

Any road win in the NFL is a good win. I get that people want high draft picks, but I don't see how getting #1 or 2 as opposed to 5 or 6 will really help us this particular year. Our areas of need are not #1 overall pick worthy, really. I agree with the above, one more good offseason and they might have something hear. COuld be 5-8 if they can beat the Browns v1.0...er the Chiefs.
