If Wisconsin goes 11-0 they will play in the Orange Bowl, probably right? Maybe? They will be selected in the BCS in any way I think. That bumps everyone up. Michigan to the Rose, #2 to the Capital One, #3 to the Outback. I think that would increase OSU's chances of playing on New Year's.

I should have put that as a possible exception in my prediction. If USC or Oklahoma slips up, and Wisconsin makes the Orange Bowl, then everyone in the Big 10 could possible move up a notch.

Assuming that Wisconsin does win out and get into the Orange Bowl, the Rose Bowl is not obligated to take Michigan. I'd say the two BCS at large teams will come from Cal/Utah/Texas/Georgia with Michigan on the outside looking in. Michigan's chances at a BCS bowl took a huge hit whenever Cal pulled out that win over Oregon. Regardless, for Michigan to have any chance at the other BCS spot they would have to beat us to keep with the other one loss teams and undefeated Utah. I would much rather beat Michigan and play in a bowl one slot lower (because Mich would have to settle for the Capital One) than have two Big Ten teams in the BCS.

If we have that bizzare "tweener" record of 7-4 (almost good, almost not so good) I have to think we go to the Outback given the amount of travelling fans we have and coming off two straight BCS games. Wiscy will hit the Rose Bowl (don't see 2 teams losing ahead of them) and I think Michigan goes to the Capital One Bowl. Below that, no one else would really be ahead of us, I don't think, at 7-4.

Because of the way OSU travels, I think the Bucks have just about clinched the Alamo Bowl. The bowl committee and chamber of commerce will drool over the possibility of OSU slipping down to their bowl. Even if NU or Minni is ahead of OSU in the standings, OSU will get the nod. I think most believe OSU will return to prominence (BCS) next year.

Barring some kind of unforseen disaster...

Wisconsin may or may not win out, for arguments sake we'll say they go 7-1 with a loss to Michigan State or Iowa. Rose Bowl

scUM will lose to us, they will also go 7-1. They should handle Northwestern. Capital One

Iowa hangs on to third because they've got the tiebreaker with us. Outback

Here is where Ohio State needs help from the Illini:

Even if Ohio State wins out, Northwestern has the tiebreaker. They've got scUM and Illinois left on their schedule. No fan in their right mind will root against NU this Saturday so we need Illinois to beat them. If they do, we must win both of our remaining games to secure the Alamo bowl. If NU wins another B10 game I'll see you guys in Nashville.

Nope. There is no "tie-breakers" at that point. The Bowls will have the right to chose. NO WAY will they pick a middle of the road NW team over OSU. Even though they beat OSU, there is no way they get chosen.

Don't be too sure about Northwestern. Yeah it is in Ann Arbor, but Northwestern has been playing some good football. I think UM will win, but I think that UM could overlook them (at least certain players could), and they might be too focused on the Ohio State game and Braylon's heisman numbers. I say this is still anyone's game halfway thru the 3rd.

I believe the bowls can choose whichever school they want if the school is not taken by a higher bowl. OSU is going to go over NU because we will bring more $.

There are no tiebreakers, the Bowls pick who they want after the Rose. No way does anyone in their right mind take NW, and in fact, I think the Outback folks will take us over Iowa, even if they are 5-3 conference, because Iowa's been there recently and we travel a lot more.

I'll be the voice of optimism here--optimism to the point of idiocy :)

IF Wisky wins out, and the Rose manages to get Mich. IF Iowa and Northwestern LOSE out... we might end up in the cap one bowl.

SURE the odds are infinitesimal, but then... it's worth a try :)
