Buckeye Cruise for Cancer

Bucknut24

Trolololol
Has anyone gone on this in the past years? I'm going on this next month, and just curious on what the experience was like. I am very excited about this, a couple of my favorite players are going to be on it (Beanie, Krenzel)

For those who haven't heard about it, here..

I think there are still some rooms available for anyone who wants to go still

Re: 2014 Buckeye Cruise For Cancer

There was no Mark May – the pin the tail on the Mark May donkey event was slated for later in the day – but there was a definite ESPN feel on Royal Caribbean’s Brilliance of the Seas on Sunday morning as network personalities Kirk Herbstreit, Robert Smith and Joey Galloway and former game analyst.

This years cruise was stuck in a fog:

Lost at sea? Urban Meyer, Buckeye cruise ship got stranded off Gulf Coast

Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer was lost at sea. Sorta.

The Buckeyes Cruise for Cancer ship was stranded at sea for about a day and a half, after a dense fog kept the ship from docking Monday morning.

Coach Meyer and his wife, along with several former Ohio State football players and a couple thousand fans, were on the ship as part of a five-day cruise which serves as a major fundraiser to benefit the Urban & Shelley Meyer Fund for cancer research and the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center -- Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.

The cruise, which left for Cozumel, Mexico, on Thursday, was supposed to dock at Port Tampa Bay on Monday morning but spent nearly 36 hours circling the waters about 20 miles off the coast waiting for the fog to clear.

Land ho! Urban Meyer no longer ‘stranded’ at sea

You can now rest easy, citizens. Our long national nightmare is over.

Well, technically, their 36-hour delay has come to an end, but still.

On a cruise to raise money for cancer research over the weekend, Urban Meyer, his wife and daughter, several current and former Ohio State players and a couple of thousand Buckeye fans were expected to arrive back in port in Tampa Monday morning. Instead, heavy fog kept the Royal Caribbean ship out at sea for an additional 36 hours, with those on board finally docking and getting back on dry land Tuesday night.

All’s well that ends well, though, as Meyer has since taken a charter flight back home to Columbus after helping to raise more than $2 million for the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center.

I wonder how difficult (and expensive) it was for everyone one else to find a last minute flight back home.

Being "stuck" on a cruise ship in the Gulf for an extra 36 hours with everything comped and not rushing back to -17 wind chills in Ohio is certainly worth some inconveniences.

The people that really wound up getting screwed were the ones that flew into Tampa for their cruise out on that same ship, waited two days, then found out it was cancelled because RC couldn't bump other future schedules.

Re: “The Royal Caribbean staff is treating us great,” LaLonde texted toThe Dispatch. He said one of the highlights last night, for example, was an impromptu karaoke session led by several former players.

“Everybody is in high spirits ... There is plenty of food so everybody is happy and safe,” LaLonde said. “It’s just a matter of waiting and juggling travel plans, work schedules, etc.”

Back at the dock just east of downtown Tampa, meanwhile, news outlets have reported that an equal number of passengers have been left waiting for the start of their cruise on the same ship. And unlike the ones who are on board out in the gulf, most of the passengers who are waiting are without their luggage, which already had been checked in for the trip.

You are correct.

So Meyer and a few former players manage to raise in a couple of days 1/6 of what the entire PSU community does in a month of trolling street corners in every corner of Pennsylvania and in neighboring states culminating in a week long orgy of dancing self-congratulation. And it goes to a real National Comprehensive Cancer Center rather than a 4th tier, rural podunk hospital.

Seriously, The James has individual, sole research grants (as I assume Pitt's CCC does) that are bigger than what THON raises.

Be fair now ... the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer is a week long orgy of self-congratulation too.

So are you really Keith Olbermann in disguise? :sneaky:
