Buckeye Nemesis/Archenemies

1) Be A Man.
Been having this conversation with several folks, and posted it over at tBBC.

Before you answer, you should check out this article from Chuck Klosterman, where he defines these two entities and outlines one of his more famous thesis- that to be successful,
What you need is a) one quality nemesis, and b) one archenemy. These are the two most important characters in the life of any successful human. We measure ourselves against our nemeses, and we long to destroy our archenemies. Nemeses and archenemies are the catalysts for everything.
Now, I know that you?re probably asking yourself, How do I know the difference between my nemesis and my archenemy? Here is the short answer: You kind of like your nemesis, despite the fact that you despise him. If your nemesis invited you out for cocktails, you would accept the offer. If he died, you would attend his funeral and?privately?you might shed a tear over his passing. But you would never have drinks with your archenemy, unless you were attempting to spike his gin with hemlock. If you were to perish, your archenemy would dance on your grave, and then he?d burn down your house and molest your children. You hate your archenemy so much that you try to keep your hatred secret, because you don?t want your archenemy to have the satisfaction of being hated.

So, in your opinion: Who is Ohio State's Nemesis? Who is their Archenemy?

Sorry if this has been done before, would love to get your thoughts..

For me, as a younger Buckeye fan (my first year at OSU was 2002 and growing up in NJ I was never really a diehard Bucks fan before that), I would say on a small scale, our nemesis would be Michigan and our archenemy would be Penn State. I hate Michigan and hope we beat them every year, but I prefer years like 2006, where the game means more. I've also found most Michigan alumni (just alumni, not the entire fanbase), to be very cordial and willing to engage in good-hearted discussion of college football. Penn State on the other hand can crawl under a rock, die, and shrivel up as far as I'm concerned. That fanbase is the most crass fanbase I've ever seen. I would expect nothing less from an amalgamation of New Jersey kids, Pittsburgh fans, and Philadelphia fans.

On a larger scale, the Big Ten would be our nemeses and the SEC would be our archenemies. That's pretty self-explanatory.

Michigan is our archenemy in everything.

For our nemesis in football, I'd say Wisconsin for now (was Illinois in the 1990s). Not sure who I'd put as our nemesis in basketball.

To me, a nemesis is an opponent who consistently gives you way more of a battle than he ordinarily should.

I was of the Nemesis = Michigan mindset for a while, but now I'm starting to think that they are actually our archenemies.

I think that Nebraska might end up being our nemesis now that they're part of the conference; which makes life at my house really interesting.

That sounds an awful lot like Penn State to me. Especially the part about molesting children.

I'm w/ mross. I would say our nemisis is Michigan. I can have a good conversation w/ a Michigan alumnus about the team, how bad of a hire RR was, laugh at the little 9. I hope we crush them every game, but wish they could hold up their end of the deal being tops in the B1G with us, dominating everyone else.

I would put PSU and Wisky in the archenemy. Moreso Wisky, since I lived in Madison, and see more of their fanbase around Chicago. I don't like anything about Badgers, they wallow in their mediocrity, but think they are elite. I don't respect their coaches, their players, nobody.

Nemisis: scUM. Lets be honest here, we all took a moment when Bo passed before "The Game". We complain that they are dragging down the rivalry, wanting them to get better. We voice our concerns over their players and rejoice when they are finally worth a damn going into the annual showdown with the Bucks. Its a classic battle. Its Blue vs Red, North vs South, Nike vs. Adidas, Woody vs. Bo. We base our coaches off of our games with them. We are concerned with them in every public manner possible - ask John Cooper.

Arch Enemy: Penn State. Since their arrival to the Big Ten in the mid 90s they have given us fits and ruined great season starts - remember Troy Smith's sack on a comeback drive? They claim to be Linebacker U. yet so do we. They have a stadium that is top 5 largest in the country, just like ours. We poke fun at Joe Pa but secretly want him to retire so we can watch their program spin into a spiral that would take years to get straightened out. This Arch Enemy is known since high school and the annual Big 33 game. That game puts out not only college great, but also Super Bowl players. We don't let it known often, but we can not stand them nor their wins.
