BuckeyePlanet - ??? Challenge (official planning session)

methomps

an imbecility, a stupidity without name
Congrats to BB73 and BP for winning last year's challenge. So now its time to decide what to do for this year. WeAreSC did not express much interest in playing this year (outside of Dubs who offered to challenge their manhood on a weekly basis), so we are left to either find a new site to challenge (Bucknuts?), split up BP in some fashion, or drop the team aspect in favor of a purely individual race.

I'd also like to know what people thought about the format last year (number of weekly picks, mix of national players) and what improvements can be made. I am automating the process this year. Almost ready to [strike]rush out[/strike] debut the site.

So thoughts?

I'm definitely up for it again. We could challenge another site, but I'm pretty sure that the number of participants from BP would outnumber those of the other site. I don't necessarily want to drop the team aspect, but we might not have much of a choice.

As to last year's format, I thought it worked really well. Thanks for putting this together.

I started doing it last year (not very well mind you) but quit pretty early on. I think there were too many picks to make. I think I might have enjoyed it more if there were less picks to make each week.

I'll give it shot again, regardless of format.

I enjoyed having the combination of game picks and stats of high-profile players, and didn't think making abuot 10 picks/estimates each week was too much.

Alright, I have reached out to Bucknuts to see if they would be interested. Last year we had a lot to pick every week because it was Ohio State versus USC. If it is Ohio State vs. Ohio State, it doesn't have to be as many picks each week.

Definitely in, I'd been meaning to ask if you were going to do it again. What's up with your USC board? There were quite a few good posters over there last year. I'd still like it to be OSU/USC, but if not, it should include some non-OSU/B10 games to give me a reason to care about other conferences.

Adding to what generaladm said, I thnk it might be interesting to have a couple categories from big national games. Some weeks there might not be one, but the 3 games between Tex-Okla-Okla St, and games like Fla-UGA and Fla-LSU I think would be OK for forecasting stats on marquee players.

It's looking like its going to be BuckeyePlanet vs Bucknuts

I will definitely throw some national marquee players in there along with the Ohio State guys (and opponents). Something like:

Pryor
[OSU player]
[OSU player]
[OSU opponent]
[national player]
[national player]
OSU Margin of victory

Thoughts?

As long as it doesn't cause tension between the sites, I'm in. It might sound silly to some, but it seems to me that sites with the history that these two have might have produced members that might take this too seriously. There is more to say, but I won't.

If you won't say more, than I will. The reason that this site exists is because of the idiocity of the "leaders" of BuckNuts. I don't know about you, or alot of others here, but about 7 years ago, Bucknuts was capital "A" Awesome. The worst thing that happened to that site was when the Buckeyes won the 2002 National Championship. The place got absolutely flooded and I sense that someone saw $$$ in the making. To see GREAT posters like our leader and founding-father "C-Dog" as well as "Mili" getting tossed for BS reasons was a joke. Especially in "C-Dogs" case where the guy was basically at times the only voice of reason on that site. "Helluva" thanks that he recieved. But, look around and see what HE created from it, and it's ALL good!!:oh:

I personally would have no porblem with Bucknuts as the opponent, but would much rather see weare.sc as our opponents, although like last year I would play for team "SC." There are some really great folks over there, very knowledgable and very respectful of our Buckeyes. I frequented there alot last year and saw a few occasions where rival trolls would come on and punk'on Beanie or TP, and the "SC" posters that were legit would hear NONE of that.

So, my personal feeling is that somehow "Thomps" gets the "SC" board revved up in the next few days to take on BP once again this year. Otherwise, if it's "BP" vs. "BN" than I'll accept, and just liken it to the "Honor Students" taking on the "Short-Bus" in a game of Jeopardy.:io:

Peace
