Watching Threads & Forums and Receiving Alerts
Watching Threads is similar to the "Subscribe" feature on the old version of BuckeyePlanet. Now, you can more easily be connected to the content you care about the most through the use of Alerts.
How Watching Threads works...
Watching a thread is simple. While viewing a thread, there is a link just above the first post on the page, on the right-hand side. Click that link, and you will be prompted to indicate whether you want to receive email notifications when new posts appear in the thread. Email notifications were available for Subscribed threads in the old version of BP, and you still have the option in the new version.
How Alerts work with Watched Threads...
There is a new type of alert that you can receive within BP that can notify you of updates to Watched Threads. They pop up as a small overlay in the bottom of your screen, and can be viewed as a list under the Alerts link in the navbar, on the far right-hand side at the top of the page. Before, unless you had email notifications set up for Subscribed Threads you had to go to the UserCP to see if any new posts appeared in the threads you followed. With the new alerts though, you don't have to navigate away from what you're reading to find out when there are new posts - the updates come straight to you, anywhere you are on BP.
Your alert preferences for Watched Threads and other types of alerts can be accessed by hovering your cursor over the Alerts link in the navbar, and then following the Alert Preferences link at the bottom of the heads-up display. Please note that while email notifications for Watched Threads can be customized on an individual basis for each subscription, the alerts you receive inside of BP are all or nothing. You either get alerts for updates to all of the threads you watch, or none of them.
How Watching Forums works...
In addition to being able to Watch Thread, you can now also Watch Forums in a similar manner. When viewing a forum, the "Watch Forum" link appears just above the first thread in the list, on the right-hand side. Clicking on the link will bring up a prompt that will allow you to select the types of alerts you would like to receive for the forum you are subscribing to. You can watch for any new posts in a forum, only new threads in a forum, or you can even choose to receive no alerts at all if you choose.
Managing Watched Threads
You can manage your Watched Threads through a link in the second line of the navbar:
Clicking on the Watched Threads link will take you to a page listing your unread watched threads. This list is similar to the manner in which you would see a list of unread subscribed threads in UserCP on the old version of BuckeyePlanet. To manage your subsciptions, follow the link below the last post in the list that says "Show all watched threads".
That link takes you to the All Watched Threads page, where you can manage your subscriptions individually or in batches. You can un-watch threads or change whether or not you receive email notifications for a thread.
Managing Watched Forums
You can manage your Watched Forums through a link in the second line of the navbar:
Clicking on the Watched Forums link will take you to a page listing all of your Watched Forums. From here you will see which forums have unread posts. You will also be able to manage your subscriptions, notifications and alerts for your Watched Forums either individually or in batches. Unlike Watched Threads, the alerts you receive inside of BP for your subscriptions can be turned on or off on an individual basis. If you choose to subscribe to forums but receive no alerts, you can use the Watched Forums function to curate your BP experience to view a list of just the forums that you are interested in. Do you care about the Buckeye sports forums, but not the pros? You can watch those forums and navigate between them from the Watched Forums page without having the list cluttered by things that you don't care about.

It was the first option under Preferences.
