Buckeyes back in the polls?

Steve19 said:
Well guys, their dropping like flies in the bottom tier of the Top 25. Where do you fancy the Buckeyes being ranked this week?

Let's take a look at how teams 20-25 have done or are doing so far:

#20 - Wisconsin (idle)
#21 - West Virginia (lost to Pitt)
#22 - Texas A&M (lost to #5 Texas 26-13)
#23 - Oklahoma State (at Texas Tech)
#24 - UTEP (at Tulsa)
#25 - Florida (idle)
------------------------------------------
#26 - Bowling Green (idle)
#27 - Ohio State (idle)
#28 - Pittsburgh (beat #21 WVU)
#29 - Purdue (idle)
#30 - Alabama (idle)

Although we should jump West Virginia, Pitt will jump us be cause they won while we were idle (Pitt was ranked only a few points behind us). No sure how far Texas A&M will fall seeing as they played the #5 team pretty tough. Obviously, if both Oklahoma State and UTEP lose, then we'll definitely be ranked again, but Florida will move up, also. We'll jump Bowling Green, who lost to Toledo on Tuesday after the polls came out.

So, if both Oklahoma State and UTEP lose, here's how I see it:

#20 - Wisconsin
#21 - Pittsburgh
#22 - Florida
#23 - Ohio State
#24 - Texas A&M
#25 - Purdue

A great day for the idle Buckeyes to re-enter the rankings!

In the Coaches Poll, Buckeyes ranked 27. Numbers 19 to 25 all lose!
In the AP, Buckeyes ranked 27. Numbers 18, 21 to 24 and 26 lose!

What is interesting is that so many of these teams lost badly to teams with poor records that they should have beaten easily (e.g., Tulsa, Arizona). Only Texas A&M lost to a ranked team.

I'm sticking with #22 or #23 for the Buckeyes.

After USC gets upset by ND (I think they are definitely the most vulnerable to the upset, they could have lost to Oregon State and should have lost to Stanford, not very good teams), here's how I see it:

1. Oklahoma (7) 11-0 1,440 2
2. Auburn (6) 11-0 1,436 3
3. California 9-1 1,299 4
4. Texas 9-1 1,260 5
5. Utah 11-0 1,246 6
6. USC 10-1 --- 1
7. Louisville 8-1 1,021 11
8. Georgia 8-2 1,092 10
9. Miami 8-2 950 13
10. Boise State 10-0 887 12
11. Virginia Tech 8-2 849 15
12. LSU 8-2 841 14
13. Michigan 9-2 813 7
14. Iowa 9-2 704 17
15. Tennessee 8-2 684 16
16. Florida State 8-3 562 8
17. Wisconsin 9-2 507 9
18. Virginia 8-2 569 18
19. Florida 7-4 --- NR
20. Texas Tech 7-4 --- NR
21. Ohio State 8-4 --- NR
22. Texas A&M 7-4 274 22
23. Notre Dame 7-4 --- NR
24. West Virginia 8-3 405 21
25. Pittsburgh 7-3 --- NR

Bumped out (Bowling Green, Ok State, UTEP, Arizona State)

I would put Arizona State in at #25 if USC wins.

#22/#22 Texas A&M-lost at #5 Texas 26-13
