Buckeyes @ Badgers Feb,4 2016

The more I think about it though, the less pissed I am about this loss. Yeah we did lose but the team IS at least showing consistent effort now. If you get beat by a better team than so be it. They absolutely could have folded when they went down 11-0 but they fought back and made it a fairly tight game all the way. Hell they could have folded when they went down 12 with 5 to go but, again, they still made the Badgers sweat. Marc Loving either needs to sit completely or only get 8-10 minutes though. Let Mickey Mitchell take his place. Arguably better defensively, gives a ton of effort, and doesn't turn the ball over nearly as much.

One thing for certain, this team will get better. I'm not expecting much more from them this year because there are too many things that need fixed. Overall team shooting, free throws, team defense, leadership, chemistry and coaching. The talent is there and they are improving.

However, I do see some inconsistencies with the quality of coaching as well as in recruiting. This goes back several years. Last years senior class (Scott, Thompson, Williams) showed very little improvement from the time they were freshmen to the time they graduated. Imagine where that team would have been without Russell? Was it a total miss in recruiting, coaching or both. I believe it was the later. Also, I do feel the staff needs an infusion of new blood. Has Thad gotten to comfortable or to loyal with his staff similar to Tressel? I don't know. But the problems with Ohio State basketball teams have existed for several years and it has ties to the type of players being recruited and how they are coached when they get here.

Agreed. OSU fought back to the point of only being down 66-63 last night with 3:30 to play. Then this happened:

3:20 Loving turnover (steal by, of all people, Nigel Hayes)
3:00 Hayes dunk (UW now up 68-63)
2:43 Loving misses three pointer (he was wide open)
2:16 Hayes is fouled and hits two free throws (UW now up 70-63)

Ballgame.

OSU fans loved to rip Amir Williams for his lack of tenacity and seemingly aloof attitude on the court. In my view, Loving's even worse when it comes to hustle, body language, and leadership. Given that he's the only upperclassman on this team, it's no wonder there's no leadership or cohesiveness to the team.
