I disagree with some of you here. True, this ranking doesn't really matter yet in any tangible sense, but its a blatant slap in the face and its total horseshit! I cannot conceive of this happening with any other major BCS program - only Ohio State. Is there any precedent for this disgrace? I doubt it. Every person who votes in the AP poll should be embarrassed right now.

This is why it's retarded to put 2/3 of the BCS in the hands of voters. No one even talked about WVU jumping us. Who have they played? Directional schools only (Central Florida and Eastern Carolina). Cincinnati and Marshall would both embarrass those schools. We'll see when they host MD this week I suppose.

Ohio State is fine just where they are in the polls. It's too early to get all bent out of shape even before this team can really find out how good they are in North Carolina State. Since V-Tech and Miami have come into this conference, NC. State has raised the bar on thier own capabilities. They have the utmost respect for a program like Ohio State. Virginia has a damn good football team and they should not be under-estimated at all. Before the polls are finished this year there are going to be lots of surprises. Wait and see. Chill out people.

Personally, I do not concern myself with the polls and I concern myself with OSU winning every game on their schedule, because history has shown...if OSU wins out they will be at the top in the end because of who they play and the tendencies of the voters.

Lets worry about NC State this Saturday and not turning the ball over, if we do that we will be where we deserve to be on Monday.

GO BUCKS!

The point is not what effect this has on OSU's title hopes. It has very little. The point is that there has been a rule in the polls from time immemorial: lose a game and go to the end of the line. Win and either maintain your position or move ahead of whoever lost. There's been some modification, like having other winners move ahead of you if you win ugly (like OSU last year or LSU this year), but this represents a total departure from the way the polls have always worked. Why? This system, whether its right or not, is what put FSU ahead of OSU in the '98-'99 BCS title game. How is it that now, with FSU once again, the voters have implicitly decided that they will scrap the system of "just win, and claw your way up" for "fuck it, we'll just vote for whomever we like, whether they win or lose"?

Uh, where exactly is the end of the line at this point in the season?

I would say that if you're a 1 loss team, Free Shoes University for example, the end of the line would be after all of the 0 loss teams. Just my 2 cents on the matter.
I think that, with the removal of the SOS from the BCS, it will force members of the media to use good judgement when analyzing teams. Depending on how impressive West Virginia plays against Maryland, I would rather see a 1 loss (OT vs Miami) FSU in the championship than an undefeated West Virginia. In fact, I would border on taking a 2 loss SEC or ACC team over the likes of an undefeted Utah, Fresno State or Troy State. Realistically, some teams shouldn't even be in line for the championship. There should be a really short line for the National Championship game that contains all BCS undefeted teams. When that list is down to 1 or two, you should throw in all the one loss BCS teams. The second line, for a BCS birth should include all 1 and 2 loss BCS teams and ONLY undefeted mid-majors. I hate to hate on the small schools, but if you don't play the talent, you don't deserve the same hype as the teams that do. You've gotta give props to the giant killers, but we play that quality of opponent every other week!
