(You bet Thad is happy)

The Ohio State University Men’s Basketball team moved onto 9-5 for the season with a current five-game winning streak. At Value City Arena the Buckeyes opened up the 2015-16 Big 10 play with a 78-63 victory against the Minnesota Golden Gophers (6-7).

Marc Loving would lead all Buckeyes with 20 points. Kieta Bates-Diop would add 13 points. Jae’Sean Tate added 10.

The thrill that JaQuan Lyle added with 13 assists brought a flair to this match that signified a team that has indeed gelled – finally!

Three players had six-rebounds each: Marc Loving, Kieta Bates-Diop, and Trevor Thompson.

Kam Williams came off the bench to hit five magical points on a Buckeyes 21-5 run that flipped the script from a point when the score was 45-44 making it suddenly 66-49 with six minutes left in the game.

All ten Buckeyes that got play time scored. A.J. Harris got himself a deuce. Mickey Mitchell delivered treś.

The Golden Gophers Carlos Morris nailed 18 points, Jordan Murphy had 11. And Nate Mason had 10.

Minnesota went on a 15-1 run that stretched from the end of the first half and into the second to take a 39-37 lead, its first of the game, when Murphy hit a pair of free throws.

What makes this Buckeye win important is how they gelled. It seemed, at times, as if it were a long way off at various times throughout this season – but the sweetness following the Kentucky victory is that the confidence level of this tremendously talented young team is now shining.

One element of this game that outlines my above point is that the Buckeyes lead at half 37-34 after leading by as much as 16. It was looking suspect. But then Kam Williams fired off that run that changed the undesirable perceptions that Buckeye fans often experience.

The Buckeyes had a total of 24 assists in this game. A total double of their season average. This is more evidence of a team that is not selfish and is gelling. What a fantastic time to gel too. The Big 10 is going to be a tough road. *ichigan State, Purdue, TTUN, Iowa, Maryland …. My point is made.

This is the 104th season for the Buckeyes in the Big Ten. Coach Thad Matta is 9-3 in conference openers, including 6-1 in Value City Arena.

Next the Buckeyes take on Illinois this Sunday @ Value City Arena. Look for this young team to improve. They are talented and will set our pessimism straight.
