C Byron 'B.J.' Mullens (Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo - Japan)

I got to see Mullens play at the fairgrounds today (I left at halftime, Prep was blowing out Columbus Academy). I was really impressed with his floor vision. He probably had around 5-6 assists in the first half passing out of double teams. It looks like he needs to work on his conditioning, he got tired quite easily. But overall, I was quite impressed with him, especially since he is only a sophomore. I am real excited about seeing this kid in two years.

Mullens is progressing and his game is developing, people are starting to see why the staff is excited about this kid. Last night Mullens had 23 points, 13 rebounds and 6 blocks...

I can't help but smile to have a group of bigmen that could include Koufos and Lauderdale, along with Oden and Mullens. Now, they may not all play together, but Ohio State basketball will soon be mentioned in the same breath as the UNC, Duke and UConn.

Is there any talk of Mullens transferring? IMHO, he either needs to transfer and start playing against some top shelf talent or Harvest Prep needs to really increase their strength of schedule, Mullens could be half the player he is capable of and still dominate DIV, I think some stiffer competition could help him raise his game quite a bit

I saw B.J. at church yesterday. Someone tipped me off that he's been attending for the past few weeks but sitting in the back row to avoid attention (and to keep from blocking everyone else's view :) ). I would have expected him to attend World Harvest, since he goes to school there. But maybe his family wanted a change of pace. My church is a LOT smaller, maybe 850 people on a good day.

Mullens was special mention All-Ohio in Division IV. Somewhat suprising in my opinion.

Although this is somewhat suprising because people know who he is because he has already verbaled to tOSU, this is not that big of a suprise. Year after year the all-ohio team in football and basketball is political if you know what I mean. Mullens only being a sophomore probably hurt him and helped place him in the special mention list. Last year Jon Diebler was only 2nd team and his brother who was a senior was first team although Jon averaged almost 12 more points a game then Jake. Look for Mullens to get first team next year.

Exactly my thoughts, most of the time, these All-Ohio squads are off base.

OhioPrep.....Mullens is named one of four players who should have been All-Ohio. Mullens averaged 18.6 points and 11.9 rebounds a game while facing double and triple teams on a consistent basis.
