HIRE GREG ODEN. Greg Oden officially has his Ohio State diploma and now finds himself in a familiar position for many recent graduates: looking for a job.

Now, to be fair, he is probably the only member of his graduating class seeking employment as an NBA or college basketball coach, and that seems to be Oden's dream.

"I feel like I got a story that can help a lot of these kids and I know a little bit about playing basketball," Oden told TMZ. "Hopefully somebody gives me an opportunity, but I'm working on that now."

Oden said he doesn't believe there's an opportunity for him at Ohio State currently, but that he's open to going just about anywhere and doing just about anything. He'll go wherever someone is willing to give him a shot.

"I wanna get my foot in the door and I just wanna work my way up," Oden said. "I'm willing to learn and adapt, I just need a chance."

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I don't think there's much risk at all to adding Greg Oden to your coaching staff. I get that he doesn't have a ton of coaching experience under his belt, but he's worked under two great college coaches and was an absolutely dominant post player during his playing days.

I mean, it's not like you're banking on his knees holding up or anything. We're talking about a coaching position.

Greg Oden assists in Boston Celtics pre-draft workouts as he pursues a path in coaching

This isn’t how Greg Oden saw his career going. The 31-year-old should have been angling for one more long-term contract in what most people expected to be a long career.

Injuries robbed him of that, but not of his passion for basketball. Now the former number one overall pick is focused on a new path: coaching.

“I’m done playing. I helped out at Ohio State for the past three, four years. So I just kinda hit the bug on me," he told MassLive. "I enjoy working with the players. I enjoy that side of it.”

The pursuit of that coaching career brought him to Boston. He was invited by the team to help out and take the floor with players and to help in their evaluation.

“Just to help out with the pre-draft stuff and see what happens from it," Oden said. "I’ll take that opportunity from it. It’s the freakin’ Celtics.”

Helping the Celtics evaluate players leads to a sort of evaluation of Oden. The more he can take part in things like this, the more he can show how he works with players.

This is also a part of the feeling-out process for Oden, too. He’s looking to stay involved with basketball, and getting into coaching means finding and making the most of opportunities like this.

“Honestly, whatever side I can get into," he said. "But I do like being on the court with the players.”

Just sayin': After dealing with some significant personnal problems (including injuries, alcoholism, domestic battery issues, etc.) it's great to see that Greg Oden graduated and is pursuing his "after playing basketball" career.
