IBRAHIMA DIALLO (SOPHOMORE)
What he’s done: Though a redshirt looked like a possibility after he joined Ohio State late in the 2019 recruiting cycle, Diallo played in eight games as a freshman, recording 1.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in five minutes per contest. In limited action, he looked raw both physically and technically. He’s not lacking any length, but he wasn’t anywhere near as polished as he needed to be to play consistently in Big Ten games.

Next season’s outlook: A long-term project, Diallo should have an uptick in minutes next season, but it’s unlikely he becomes a regular in Holtmann’s game-to-game rotation. To do that, he’d need to show quite a bit of improvement on both sides of the court. He’ll likely impact games most with his length defensively and as a rebounder in 2020-21 since the Buckeyes will be relatively undersized in the frontcourt. While universally liked as a person within the program, Diallo still has a ways to go to become a consistent contributor.

el diablo is one of the guys on the team that deserves a roster spot just because he brings so much energy to the team when he is sitting on a bench he is one guy that really cheers on his teammates when he is riding the pine just a great kid

Re: A long-term project

I thought he probably should have red shirted this season.

THE GIANT OF SENEGAL. We didn't get to see much of Ibrahima Diallo in his debut season with the Buckeyes, but there might not be a player on the roster with a higher ceiling than the 7-footer who just started playing basketball a few years ago, and there sure isn't anyone with a more interesting story.

So here's your shot to get to know him a little better.

As an aside, I know Ibrahima speaks multiple languages. However, I was not expecting his high school coach to be able to speak fluent French like that. Big props.

I hope to see Ibrahima's impact on the court sooner than later. Dude's got all the potential in the world.

If that is true, he should eventually have a "breakout" year; I hope it happens sooner rather than later in his career at Ohio State.

In my head, it makes complete sense that a person who is seven feet tall would have hands so large they make common objects look like Barbie toys.

However! That doesn't mean my brain is just going to be okay with it when my eyes send it this image:

iPad = His Hands == iPhone = My Hands.

Just sayin': Reminds me of Andre The Giant.

A 6-foot-10, 220-pound center, Diallo’s career never quite took off in Columbus. He suffered a concussion against Cleveland State in early December and his knee injury held him out until late February. Even after coming back from the MCL setback, he couldn’t find a spot in the rotation.

Diallo obviously didn’t want to wait much longer. Ranked as the No. 369 overall recruit in the class of 2019, he arrived at Ohio State as a developmental prospect. A native of Senegal, he held offers from LSU, Pittsburgh and Florida State. He eventually chose to join the Buckeyes, but he never saw consistent playing time. And with a stacked front court, he likely wouldn’t have cracked meaningful minutes next season.

Just sayin': Injuries sure didn't help his quest for playing time. Anyway, maybe he'll do better with a "fresh start" at another school.
