C Kaleb "Bully" Wesson ('18 All B1G Freshman, '19 Honorable Mention All B1G, '20 2nd Team All B1G)

Jared Sullinger couldn't last more than a couple seasons in the NBA. Kaleb Wesson is a very poor man's Sullinger. His destination is Europe after graduation.
fortunately for kaleb, he doesn't *knock on wood* have sullinger's back issues, which were highlighted during the combine workouts. and sully has been beset by more than just back injuries. he was rather productive otherwise. that being stated, kaleb is still a poor man's sully. he's neither as skilled nor as nimble.

there is still a path to the nba for kaleb, though. but the only way that has any chance of happening is for him to replace fat with muscle and to ramp up his conditioning at least a couple levels.

The pre-draft process rolls on.

Nearly three weeks after taking part in a workout in Atlanta in front of the Hawks' organization, Ohio State big man Kaleb Wesson will go through a group workout for the Boston Celtics on Monday, a source told Eleven Warriors. Boston has the No. 14, 20, 22 and 51 picks in the draft.

Wesson has until May 29 to decide whether or not to keep his name in the 2019 NBA Draft pool. He is able to retain his college eligibility while going through workouts.

Wesson is expected to return for his junior year with the Buckeyes and is not ranked among ESPN's top-100 draft prospects.

As a sophomore, Wesson averaged 14.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 25.9 minutes per game. He shot 50 percent from the field and extended his range beyond the arc, making 34.7 percent of his 3-pointers.

Chris Holtmann has supported Wesson throughout the pre-draft process, noting how even if he remains in school, Wesson can use the information to improve his game and future draft value.

"I think Kaleb is bright and his family, I think, has a good and reasonable understanding of what this process is and kind of where he currently is," Holtmann said on April 10. "So I think all that's really helpful. I don't know what I would put odds on (him returning). But I think we're every day kind of getting feedback that gives us and gives him a better idea of kind of where he currently stands."

Special assistant to the head coach Mike Netti has helped guide Wesson through the process.

CHRIS HOLTMANN: KALEB WESSON'S FEEDBACK FROM NBA TEAMS MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL FOR WESSON AND OHIO STATE

104609_h.jpg

Some coaches get nervous when their players who they expect to return for another year of college basketball go through the NBA pre-draft process.

Their minds start to wander.

Will NBA personnel tell my player he needs to change positions? Will they tell him to play a style that doesn’t fit my system or team? How much of their feedback will contradict what my coaching staff tells him?

Chris Holtmann didn’t have those concerns about Kaleb Wesson – at least, that’s what he said on Wednesday. During Wesson’s pre-draft process, which spanned from when he announced he’d enter the draft on April 10 to when he withdrew on May 28, he worked out with two teams: the Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks. The feedback Wesson received, Holtmann said, strongly correlated to what the coaching staff had been harping on for much of the past two years.

“So much of what they're saying that he needs to get better at really, certainly benefits him, but it benefits our team,” Holtmann said on Wednesday. “It's all the things that he's heard. Fitness, defending ball screens. Ball-screen defense has become a constant. He knows that, Kaleb knows that. And he did make improvements. There's no question he made improvements in his mobility and his ball-screen defense from Year 1 to Year 2, from his freshman to sophomore year. But those things continue.”

“They like that his skill level is what it is. I think they'd like to see his turnovers go down a little bit more, his rebounding increase a little bit. Not one time did scoring come up. I think they know that he's capable of scoring.”
