2018 CA LB Solomon Tuliaupupu (USC signee)

Wasn't sure if anyone caught this in 11W's Hurry Up yesterday (see bolded quotes):

AT A LOSS FOR WORDS
Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer offered a scholarship on Wednesday afternoon to Santa Ana, California, Mater Dei five-star athlete Horace "Bru" McCoy.

...

“It's one of those big schools,” McCoy said. “They carry a lot of respect in their name, and you know in being offered by them that the hard work is paying off.”

The Buckeyes are also recruiting his teammates, 2018 five-star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and four-star linebacker Solomon Tuliaupupu. And though St. Brown has yet to make it to Columbus, Tuliaupupu raved about his trip in mid-April.

“Me and him talked about it, and he just told me how much he enjoyed it,” McCoy said. “How it felt like home and how welcoming of a school it was.”

With camp about to begin next week, McCoy doesn't anticipate he'll visit until sometime after the season.

If true (and it certainly now looks like it), makes sense why the staff wanted to put the brakes on K'Vaughn Pope until Solomon has a chance to see what he needs to see.

I think it is definitely Solomon holding them up on taking a commitment from Pope...he is higher on the board and the interest is legitimate. Won't be easy to land him, but some feel we are actually out front for him.

Yeah......Adding him to the other 2 for the class following last years LB class would be pretty ridiculous.

Very true. But also looking at our only competition (USC), they are pretty loaded at LB as well. Gaoteote (5 star, tops in my books) Scott (top 100 type player) and Bo Calvert (unanimous 4 star) are already all in the fold. Then again, we have been loaded lately. My point is that I think it simply comes down to which school he feels comfortable with. And it honestly seems like that is OSU, but just have to see if that overcomes distance.

Just going to put this out there in case it happens. You take a look at what the ENTIRE defense could look like in the next 2-3 years if guys already in the fold or very well could be and it's simply staggering. I can't imagine playing LB behind a DLine like tOSU could field and in front of the secondary it could field.

That's nuts.

Ohio State looks to add more 4- and 5-star talent to their 2018 class

Linebackers coach Bill Davis was one of the coaches who packed his bags and went out onto the recruiting trail. On Monday, Davis ended up in California to take in a practice with Solomon Tuliaupupu (Santa Ana/Mater Dei) being the focus, according to Bill Kurelic of 247sports.

Tuliaupupu is one of the top players in the state of California, and at his position. According to 247sports, the Mater Dei standout is the third-best player in his state, and the second-best inside linebacker for the 2018 class.

In the article by Kurelic, the Mater Dei coached talked with Davis—and things seemed to go well. Additionally, Kurelic talked to Solomon’s father, who said that an Ohio State visit will “definitely” be on the list. Whether that will be at a game or a campus visit remains to be seen; Michigan State (Nov. 11) and Illinois (Nov. 28) are the only remaining home games—outside of Penn State—that the Buckeyes have this season.

While Davis is making the trip out West, getting Tuliaupupu out of California to commit may be a bigger hurdle. Right now on the 247sports Crystal Ball Predictions, eight of the nine predictions point to Tuliaupupu committing to the USC Trojans. However, the last two predictions, one made on May 30 and the other on July 19, are for Ohio State and USC, respectively.

The Hurry Up: Ohio State Offers Georgia Wideout Ramel Keyton While Zach Smith Visits Top Target Kamryn Babb

Last but not least, Ohio State linebackers coach Bill Davis was in California on Tuesday to watch Santa Ana Mater Dei four-star linebacker Solomon Tuliaupupu practice.

It’s really the first time in a few months we’ve discussed the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Tuliaupupu this fall, as he’s put his recruitment on the backburner to focus solely on the football season. And that’s proved to be a good idea, as he leads the undefeated and top-ranked Monarchs in tackles.

Tuliaupupu will take his first official visit this weekend to Notre Dame, with trips to Alabama, Oregon and USC likely. His father, Turnbull, recently told Eleven Warriors another trip to Columbus is certain, too.
