... have a TD called back on an unnecessary hold ...

The way I saw it, the guy getting held downfield was in the best position to make a tackle on the Cal player that was running free to the endzone. I was in a bar so I couldn't hear the commentary very clear, but it looked like a hold that prevented a potential TD saving tackle. Don't know if he would have made it, but I wouldn't call it and unnecessary hold since typically those are made well away from the play.

For anyone that was there: in the 3Q, were the receivers not getting open at all or was Miller just not seeing them?

I was listening to the game, didn't see the that play but I heard one of the announcers say it was no where near the play.

And last time an opponent had a 100 yard rusher..

Ok, can someone answer both questions?

I am truly interested...
Denard Robinson (26 for 170) and Fitz Toussaint (20 for 120) last year in The Game.

The defense gave up 540 yards to Purdue in 1985, and a record 659 to Illinois in 1980.

Got it. Yeah, wait till you watch the replay. The guy getting held was a safety (I think) on the same side of the field where the Cal runner was, and the block->hold was well down field. The TV announcers were calling a questionable call but I don't think it was. The defender had our DB up under the pads and was holding on to keep him locked up. I know that trick very well because I used it many times being an under sized OL in high school .

this defense has to be near the bottom of the NCAA in plays allowed over 15+ yards. They must've gave up 10 or so plays over 15+.

as far as the last time over 500+ yards. I'd have to guess NC State and that was 3 OT's.
NC State had only 336 yards in that game.

If you would have told me before the game that the Buckeye defense would have six sacks for 50 yards, an interception, two stops on fourth down, and "force" three missed field goals, then I would have predicted that Cal would score about 10 points and have about 250 yards of total offense. However, outside of those dozen big plays, the defense did very little. Of course, giving up 160 yards and two touchdowns - on just four carries - to a kid who entered the game with only 40 yards rushing in his career tends to negate a whole bunch of big plays.

Amazingly, I believe the Buckeyes won that game 49-42 despite being torched by the immortal QB, David Wilson.

2012 Buckeyes? Might as well call them the 5150 Buckeyes! They are about to drive me nuts.

The only unit that seems to be consistent is our special teams, and we haven't seen that spark yet. Offense and Defense both have flashed that something special, just to turn around the the next series and leave me asking WTF?

Play calling? Same as the O and D, some great stuff there. Yet sometimes it feels like not every play is available at any given moment. Tempo? I don't really feel that it's leaps and bounds faster, from watching it on TV.

The secondary. For gods sake play man to man, or bump and run, or anything else that doesn't allow a receiver to be wide open for the first 3 seconds of a play.

Braxton. Today was kind of weird for me. It seemed like he was hesitant for the first time. He made some great throws, and then he threw some balls too high even for Calvin Johnson. He made some great reads and pitched the ball, but didn't seem to have that "I'm taking the ball to the house" or "This is my time" mentality often or regularly enough. I just try and remember the kid is a sophomore in his second system in as many years.

Overall I'd say if this team ever puts together a complete game with everything I've been amazed by we'll be pretty damn hard to beat. If we keep making the same mistakes I've seen, we're pretty beatable.

Almost as unbelievable, watching John Simon get stiff armed by a 5'8" RB (at least once).
