Call Of Duty 5: World At War

BuckeyeTillIDie

The North Remembers
Well, COD5 is going to be released in Fall 2008/Winter 2009. The trailer just came out the other day, here it is:

I'm going to be skeptical of it because COD4 was so great and this one is being made by Activision/Treyarch and Infinity Ward like COD4.

I want to see some actual game play footage and hear more details on the online multiplayer, too.

edit: new info...

Gameplay

- Call of Duty: World at War will feature a more mature theme than previous installments in the series. Swimming elements will be introduced to the series for the first time in single player and multiplayer. While in water, the player cannot sprint and will only move at half speed.[4] Flamethrowers, first introduced in Call of Duty: United Offensive, will be reintroduced with new flammable environments.

Multiplayer

-World at War will feature cooperative gameplay (four players via split-screen (on consoles) or four players online) for the first time in the franchise. Vehicles will return as well as new squad-based elements within multiplayer. It will also use a similar perk system to Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4

Development

- The game will be powered by an enhanced version of Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare engine - improvements have been made to the physics engine and lighting model. Environments are now more destructible and can be set on fire with the flamethrower (which features propagating fire). Bullets can also cut holes in thin wood, making a gap big enough for the player to climb through.

Call of Duty 3 not infinity ward- sucked balls

The Treyarch team is getting help from Infinity Ward from what I hear.
They'll be using many of the features from CoD4 such as perks and etc.

Hopefully they won't have customizable weapons in ww2.... that would be lame.

Anyways I think the graphics are great and it could be fun... I actually like what I'm hearing about the single player campaigns... It sounds like their going to make it rated M... and show the darker elements of WW2...

But who knows.. all that trailer showed us was that the graphics are good and its world war two on different fronts (Germans and Japanese).

Why in the hell would they want to go back to WWII again though? Another modern warfare would be great.

Because there are clear enemies, and they are evenly matched. Add to that there are not a whole lot of Nazis complaining they are portrayed poorly, and you get another WWII game since it's the best backdrop for most war games.

Not saying I'm for it, but there is not much backlash and a ton of stories from WWII. In modern war it has to be a made up story from scratch, and whomever is portrayed as the enemy gets all ticked off.

I'm hesitant about another CoD game so soon, and another WWII shooter in particular. Since Infinity Ward is at least a partner in this one, we can probably expect World at War to be decent as far as these games go. Probably not the best but it shouldn't be anywhere near the epic failure that was Call of Duty 3.

Personally, I'm a little excited about the potential of fighting the Japanese, that seems to be a theatre of the war that has been relatively unexplored/poorly implemented in games so far. The Pacific War was vastly different from the European campaigns. Here's to them hoping they do it right.

It's called "Call of Duty" because thats what this country felt during WWII. I dont get that same feeling today. It was never supposed to go to modern warfare. The reason there is a thread about COD is because of the first one. CODOU had tanks and jeeps and was the best thing COD put out till COD4. COD2 and 3 were pathtic jokes.

Treyarch said that vehicles will be in the game.... one aspect I don't like at all...

I'm not buying it if it has vehicles in multiplayer. One way to completely ruin an online experience is by adding vehicles. The only game that I can even remotely stand vehicles is Halo, but even then I despise them and the people who use them for anything other than transportation. And I don't even play Halo anymore.

And in response to the post above mine, it's better without vehicles, even if the one you're talking about was good. It would just be better without them. Just my opinion of course.

I gotta disagree here, vehicles can be good in some games. Battlefield 2:Modern Combat, absolutely owned. Was, and still is my 2nd favorite shooter to CoD 4. Plus the ability to vote/kick team killers or other annoying people is a plus lol

I thought CoD2 was one of the best shooters of that era.

I forgot about Battlefield 2. The vehicles were fine in Battlefield 2. I loved that game..

98% of the time, vehicles ruin online play for me. There are very few exceptions..
