Calling Out the Boosters

You can blame the kids all you want but there is a reason why there is an entrapment law outside the NCAA. I can't place all the blame on the players. Without these corrupt boosters, there would be a lot less problems.

Kind of like placing more blame on the drug dealer than the drug user, if you're a cop. Nail the people handing out the treats and the there won't be so much begging.

entrapment (definition):The inducement, by law enforcement officers or their agents, of another person to commit a crime for the purposes of bringing charges for the commission of that artificially-provoked crime.

how exactly was mr. smith tricked into taking money from boosters? :shake:

huh? yeah, cause nailing the drug dealers has made such a dent in drug usage . heres a crazy, yet novel, conscept. how about if i hold you responsible for YOUR actions. i know, no one really gets that. its always "someone elses fault". little jonny couldn't have done anything wrong. a little angel he is! it was someone else!! they tricked him into doing a bad thing. not little jonny... he's a good boy.

I think that Smith needs to be gone. But I still don't think it's 100% his fault. The boosters need to be punished. I'm sure most of the players who take the money from boosters figure that they won't be caught. They probably think that they're to sneaky with the money to be caught. So yeah, it is the players fault, but without the damn boosters it wouldn't happen. It's like what Goofy said, without drug dealers, there wouldn't be druggies.

Guess what-everyone thinks they are smarter than the authorities until they get caught. Kids try and cheat in my class-maybe they get away w/ it a couple of times, but I do bust them. Criminologists estimate that for every crime a criminal is convicted of, he has probably gotten away with at least 10 others. Boosters obviously get away w/ giving stuff to players enough to make it worth the risk for the player. The difference is, unlike the student caught cheating in class, or the criminal in prison, there is NO consequence to the booster if he/she gets caught, other than media scrutiny. Unless there are criminal penalites for this kind of stuff-and I'm not necessarily saying that there should-this stuff will happen, because the booster has zero to lose.

Attention all access-seeking boosters, jocksniffers, hangers-on, profiteers, wannabe insiders, Twitter followers, Facebook friends, wannabe recruiting experts, street agents and bowl game organizers... PLEASE STOP. You're ruining it. Go fucking kill yourselves. That is all.

I'm tired of this "blame all the players" bullshit. Yeah, they deserve some blame, but these boosters are presumably grown ups who are well versed in the rules, and who know these kids could fuck up their future by taking money. These boosters are slime balls who just want to be close to program, and are fucking it up instead. I want an investigation!! I want names goddamnit!! Why are these kids the sole fall guys?

Granted some "boosters" leave much to be desired but at the end of the day unless they're holding guns to players' heads forcing them to accept things, any infractions that result are on the players assuming they have been taught what is and is not acceptable. If they weren't given proper instruction, then it is on tOSU.

Boosters can't do anything unless someone lets them.

Don't know if I totally agree with you here Mili. Both are at fault.

Mili, put yourself back in college, if someone was throwing thousands of $$ at you and you knew that maybe you would get kicked out of school if you were caught taking it, would you still take it? I probably would b/c it was awful tough to make ends meet, especially in grad school when we weren't allowed to have jobs.

Also, what if the boosters give the money to the parents of a player who then pass the money on to the player, acting as a "launderer" if you will? Whose at fault then?

Is there a rule saying that parents of a player can't accept money?

Get's very complicated.

Interesting question from 2004. Guess we know the answer now...

Conversely, players have a hard time selling their gold pants charms unless people create a market for that stuff.

I'm not trying to divert blame. I'm trying to do my part to make sure its spread to EVERYONE who deserves it. These folks are the lowest form of fan.

Let's not forget that it's perfectly legal to buy influence, just as long as you have enough fucking money.
