Campbell Fighting Camels at Ohio State, November 26, 7 PM, BTN

Rotations on the zone are bad and a 2-2-1 is going to give up corner threes. They hit three from 23 plus feet in the first half. Nothing you can do about those.

Soft big man play, bad interior defense and weak rebounding are my main concerns.

Interesting stat - OSU has played 4 games and has played 10 players in each game except Sacred Heart when Williams sat out.

Every player has scored at least two points in every game and every player is averaging 4 or more points per game through 4 games.

This is not your typical Thad Matta rotation.

There is no such thing as a typical Thad Matta rotation IMO. Media has seized upon the notion that he prefers to play his starters 40 minutes and doesn't want to play the bench, and they are holding onto that idea like a security blanket. Yeah, if he has a legit NBA prospect, he's not going to want to take him out very often because he doesn't have many legit NBA prospects on his teams (and why risk losing games with your best player on the bench?). But whenever he has a bench with very talented players, those very talented players have earned minutes. He has had a team that played the bench sparingly (2010) and a team that went 9-deep (2007), a team in 2012 where the bench couldn't score but 3-4 guys were used situationally to help with other aspects of the game, a team in 2013 that went 8 deep with 2 guys averaging 34-35 minutes and 6 between 16 and 27 mpg. His first team at OSU had a very deep bench because nobody on the team was very good and a lot of guys were of similar talent level, the very next year he plays six basically but the sixth man won the league's honor for that role. This team is showing to be more of the 2007 type of team in terms of the bench getting a lot of minutes (at least in the early going). It remains to be seen whether the bench will shrink against teams that are better than Campbell, but I don't think anyone from the outside can say with confidence whether he will stick with the deep bench or not based on his past practices.

Matta said after the game that he was not very pleased with the effort his team put forth and told Jim Jackson that they would get it corrected tomorrow which now was yesterday and that was Thanksgiving so I bet the boys worked up a very good appetite..

Yeah, definitely not their best effort, they were just trading baskets with Campbell in the second half, didn't look like there was a lot of energy out there for OSU in the second half. This game was another when OSU seemed to give up a lot of offensive rebounds, the ball just wasn't bouncing their way.
