Can Clemson Beat Us? (formerly Can we beat Clemson?)

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!

If they can't take the BP hazing, they'll never make it in these parts. It's part of the charm. Those who stay will not be bitterly disappointed.

Honestly, I never thought of it as hazing. So, more of an initiation ritual than a no admittance sign?

PS Maybe I never recognized it as such because, unless it went over my head, it never happened to me.

Am I crazy to think Washington has a decent shot against Alabama?

Chris Petersen made his bread and butter at Boise State taking down heavily-favored, exceedingly more talented teams thanks to game planning and excellent coaching. Give him a month to prepare and I think the Huskies have a shot.
Could go either way really. The way USC beat Washington pretty convincingly tells me that Bama would maul them.

On the other hand, Bama has struggled with teams less talented than Washington. If Browning doesn't do anything stupid I could see the Huskies upset Bama.

I'm ashamed to admit that my comment regarding Mo Wells earned me an infraction and a good ribbing way back when. Shhh.

Browning can't handle pressure. He piles up stats when he has all day to throw against teams like Cal and Oregon. Alabama would fuck his world up

Now just basic harassment--I guess that doesn't have a time schedule.

yes you are crazy. they have major issues defending a QB that can move, and the best team they played this year completely manhandled them on the O/D-lines on their own field with a freshman QB that can't move. USC has absolute monsters that get very good pressure, and Browning has serious problems floating the deep ball and shorting passes over 20 yds, so against anyone that rushes the QB and disrupts, even a mildly competent secondary will just sit and willfully pick him a couple times. WSH hasn't played anybody with a pulse this year outside of USC and the only reason they had a chance to win that game was Darnold threw a really bad pick to keep them in it. at no point after half did you seriously feel that they would put together drives or break through the coverage and pick apart a defense.

yesterday i rewatched every WSH game from week 6, with the Ariz game thrown in there also from week 3, and he is so goddamn predictable it's disgusting. mark it down, he will try a throwback pass or some flee-flicker type [Mark May] on his first drive against CU to pick off a big play trying to get the corners and safeties to bite. their receivers are competent enough to get slight separation if that happens, but he is a momentum coach and if that gimmicky [Mark May] doesn't work, and it won't against a coach that knows it is coming and a defensive line that is twice the size of his offensive line, he becomes very vanilla.

if saban prepares correctly and watches just a couple games worth of tape they would get destroyed.

The counterpoint is that you could make many of the same arguments against us. Our OLine was mauled by Michigan, MSU and Penn State ; JT right now has serious problems throwing not just the deep ball, but any ball > 10 yards ; our offensive playcalling (QB draw + sweep, anyone?) has left a lot to be desired throughout the year ; and our receivers (besides Noah) are highly inexperienced and get minimal separation.

We've played a much tougher schedule than Washington, and we've beat better teams, but many of the same fundamental criticisms that apply to them apply to us. Lastly, although JT is a mobile QB, I don't think he can be effective that way against the Alabama DLine if the downfield passing game does not develop.

You've definitely watched more of Washington than I have, and your concerns are probably true, but I think they've got a puncher's chance. And if they don't, I don't think we'll have much of one either considering our OL and passing game.

Even though the score looked good for them, I wasn't impressed with Washington's defense. Before the Colorado QB got hurt and started throwing picks on every throw, the Buffs were running really well on them. A power running game, like Alabama's, would destroy them. They are a gambling defense. They will make some big plays, but give up a ton too.

But can OSU beat Clemson? Sure. The Bucks have the defense to limit them to, say, under 30 points. The question is whether JT and Co can put up 30 on them. Give Urban a month to improve the passing game, and I would feel pretty good about that game.

The most important thing to me as a CFB fan is that Ohio State and Clemson are on that 2-3 side of the bracket. It will be a fantastic game, and it insures that the championship game will be worth watching. I want Bama only for one game for all the marbles. Don't want to play them and then have to play again.

The wildcard in this situation is Deshaun Watson. If he plays against us like he played against Alabama (which was an equally, if not more dominant defense) last year, we'll be hard-pressed to keep up with them in terms of scoring.
