Panthers Give Behind-the-Scenes Look at Free-Agent Contract Negotiations

The Carolina Panthers have been providing fans with a detailed behind-the-scenes look at key moments this offseason through a web series. One episode focused on NFL Draft night and revealed what the Minnesota Vikings offered the team in a proposed trade for the Panthers' No. 8 pick.

Another clip from the series has surfaced and it focuses on free agency, giving viewers insight into Carolina's negotiations with tight end Dan Arnold.

Eventually the two sides settled on two years for $6 million. It's cool to see how the negotiations in this clip led to a deal that both sides should be happy with.

The Panthers have an NFL-worst 1-10 record and are assured of a sixth straight losing season since owner David Tepper purchased the team in 2018 for $2.275 billion.

"I met with Coach Reich this morning and informed him that he will not continue as head coach of the Carolina Panthers," Tepper said in a statement. "I want to thank Frank for his dedication and service, and we wish him well."

I can't say if it's true or not, but I've seen reports that Reich wanted Stroud but the owner wanted Young. If that's true, for the owner to turn around and fire Reich midseason when he couldn't make Young work is a major dick move.

If I'm an aspiring coordinator, like Ben Johnson in Detroit, there's no way I want this HC job. Tepper may soon find himself having to hire a former HC who is desperate for another shot.

Rumors are Riech and McCown wanted Stroud. McCown was just fired as well

It goes deeper. Tepper wanted Justin Fields at #8 in 2021 to pair with Moore & CMC, but Rhule and his staff demanded they stay with the pre-draft plan to take Jaycee Horn. Tepper relented and trusted the football guys. That underpins his decision to mortgage the future and then take Young over Stroud without listening to the advice of the staff he'd hired 90 days earlier. According to reports out of Carolina interim HC Chris Tabor also immediately fired Josh McCown.
