NBA experts say LeBron James and Cleveland Cavaliers are suited for triangle offense

Players are suited for such a system but selling idea is major hurdle Sunday, June 08, 2008
Mary Schmitt BoyerPlain Dealer Reporter

Coach Phil Jackson has coached 11 teams from two different cities into the NBA Finals, but they all have one thing in common: the triangle offense.
With the Cavaliers taking a lot of heat about their stagnant offense preventing them from beating the Boston Celtics and advancing in the playoffs this season, it seems like a question worth asking:

Could the triangle offense work here?

"In Cleveland's situation, in my mind, the personnel would be ideal," Tex Winter said.

Contrary to popular opinion, Winter didn't invent the triangle - or triple-post - offense. He learned it while playing for Sam Barry at USC and perfected it during more than 60 years of coaching in college and as an assistant to Jackson in Chicago and Los Angeles.

Now a consultant to the Lakers, the 86-year-old Winter wanted to make it clear he was only answering a question. He didn't want it to appear he was analyzing or criticizing the Cavs.

But as the foremost authority on the triangle offense, he's the basketball version of the EF Hutton ad. When he talks, people listen.

lots of rumors on other boards about a done deal for Redd. No trades can be announced until the finals are over, so it will take a while to find out.

but the rumor is wally and AV for Redd, no draft picks involved.

if that is the trade, and cleveland uses #19 on a big, that's not too bad at all.

I guess that would kill any move for JO the less they would like to take Ben Wallace:lol:off of our hands. I really can't think of anything else that could get him from Indiana.

Probably so as not sure if we would have the contracts to match for JO...we would have Snow as an expiring, and Joe smith...But wouldn't be able to match 20mil...

Either way Redd would make me very very very happy...

Great if true... he would be a much better get than JO in my opinion. But I'll believe it when i see it.

If that trade for Redd would happen, I'd be ecstatic. :banger:

As for O'Neal, I think it'd be a mistake to make a move for him. He has a monster contract, is getting up there in years and is injury prone. Bad, bad combination.

From the ABJ: Cleveland has never had interest in O'neal. Apparently his game would be a horrible fit with LBJ.

AV and Wally for Redd sounds too good. Again, I'll believe it when it's done.

I'm not quite sure if I want to get ridy of Wally, I started to like him...

However Redd would be freaking great. and @ the 19th pick grab Koufos.

Wally can't create off the dribble, is a streaky shooter, needs other guys to get him open, and is not a very solid defender...

Redd on the other hand, can create a jumper for himself, will take the midrange jumper along with the outside, can hit a contested jumper or wide open jumper...Can help do some ball handling out top, can run a pick and roll as the dribble guy, and is a solid defender...Not great, but solid...

West and Redd give you a solid 30-35pts/night from the starting backcourt...

Gibson has surgery on ankle, bone spurs removed Guard also recovering from shoulder injury, is expected to be ready for training camp
By Brian Windhorst
Beacon Journal sportswriter

Published on Wednesday, Jun 11, 2008
Daniel Gibson was never quite the same after a severe high left-ankle sprain in February, and there was a reason.
Gibson had some bone spurs and some loose bodies in the ankle after the injury he suffered against the Indiana Pacers on Feb. 20, which knocked him out for more than a month. The Cavaliers announced Gibson had them removed in an arthroscopic procedure Tuesday in his hometown of Houston.
He will be on crutches for a week and will then begin rehab work. The Cavs expect him to be ready to go by training camp in late September. Gibson decided to have the surgery now to make sure he would be back for training camp. Some of the damage came from previous ankle injuries from earlier in his career.

Cavs deny permission for Ilgauskas to play in Olympics
6/13/2008, 2:19 p.m. EDT
The Associated Press
CLEVELAND (AP) ? LeBron James will to be the only Cavaliers player going to China this summer.

The Cavaliers have declined permission for center Zydrunas Ilgauskas to play for Lithuania in the Olympics.

Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry says Ilgauskas is a higher risk player due to his injury history.

The 7-foot-3 Ilgauskas was plagued by foot injuries early in his career and the Cavs are concerned about his lower back.

Ilgauskas needed permission to play because his contract is not fully insured.
