Trading Varejao is good idea Especially if it means Cavs can acquire Redd
By Patrick McManamon
Beacon Journal sports columnist

Published on Wednesday, Jun 18, 2008
Anderson Varejao could be traded ? though it's not a simple ''just-ship-him-elsewhere'' proposition.
Daniel Gibson should be coming back.
And the interest from the Cavaliers in adding a scorer like Michael Redd is real and genuine.
That's the way things appear at this early point of the offseason. Now that the NBA Finals are over, we do not have to see Pau Gasol's facial contortions any longer and do not have to see Sasha Vujacic, period.
Another benefit of the Finals being over is that Danny Ferry and the Cavs can start in earnest to fortify a pretty good team.
That they're already a good team is a key point.
There is no need to tear the Cavs apart, as some wailing banshees would suggest. There is only a need to add pieces and parts.
To add, though, a team has to give something up.

Cavs won't allow Ilgauskas to play in Beijing Olympics

CLEVELAND (AP) -- LeBron James will be the only Cleveland Cavaliers player going to China this summer.
The Cavaliers have declined permission for center Zydrunas Ilgauskas to play for Lithuania in the Olympics.
Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry said Ilgauskas is a higher-risk player because of his injury history. The 7-foot-3 Ilgauskas was plagued by foot injuries early in his career and the Cavs are concerned about his lower back.
Ilgauskas needed permission to play because his contract is not fully insured.

Seeing as the Cavs gave the Celtics the best test of the playoffs I really feel a guy like Redd would put them over the top. If you give them Redd and Villiwhatiz like the first article mentions you can paint the endzones. Time for Ferry to earn his paycheck.

Paul Pierce and Tiger Woods. The NBA draft and free agency. The U.S. Olympic team and the University of Akron men's basketball team.
Those were just some of the topics LeBron James touched on Wednesday in a wide ranging one-on-one interview, his first since the Cavaliers were eliminated from the NBA playoffs a month ago.
Heading into the busiest part of his summer, he took a break to sit down with The Plain Dealer.

Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James a more deserving MVP, Bill Livingston writes

Thursday, June 19, 2008Bill Livingston
Plain Dealer Columnist
Everything is magnified in the playoffs, but what order of enlargement would be necessary to find the Los Angeles Lakers' hearts?
To spot an NBA Finals performance worthy of his hype by Kobe Bryant, the league's alleged Most Valuable Player?
To discover a coaching adjustment by Phil Jackson that had the chance of a pat of butter on a griddle of surviving the heat Boston applied?

LeBron James still has faith in his teammates, front office
Thursday, June 19, 2008
REPOSITORY STAFF REPORT

A busy week for LeBron James included an appearance on a local radio broadcast Wednesday where the Cavaliers All-Star sounded optimistic.

"We're going to be good because I'm going to continue to get better and I have faith in my teammates," James said during the "Munch on Sports" show on ESPN 850 WKNR.

James was on the show to promote his family foundation's 2008 State Farm King For Kids Bikeathon, which is Saturday in Akron.

James was asked about the Cavs needing to get better.

"It automatically starts with the guys that's already on the team getting better as individuals," James said. "If guys get better as individuals, it automatically makes the team better. ... If some personnel changes need to be made that's between the front office."

James has confidence his teammates will put in the work to improve. Take those improvement, he said, and "add that to the system we already have, we're going to be a better team because of that."

I would not want anyone to hold their breath:) for something that is not a done deal yet but Milwaukee has nothing to lose and it's just a question does Ferry have the guts to pull the trigger.

I don't even think this one is on Ferry. Would the Bucks trade Redd to a division team? If the Bucks are up for it I think Ferry will do anything to pull it off.

the bucks are looking to blow up the roster and build around their two bigs. that includes dumping the contracts of redd and no eyebrows.

there are a limited number of teams that have the expiring contracts to pull off something of that nature, and the cavs are one of them. that being said, a trade like this probably doesn't happen until midseason.

with the bucks wanting to do a complete overhaul.. and Detroit wanting to do a complete overhaul... add the Knicks... then Denver probably wanting to do major reconstruction... and Miami, Chicago, Memphis and the list goes on and on... it's most likely gonna make for a trading frenzy...

where there's smoke, there's fire

so I'm guessing Redd is in wine & gold mid summer...

I am just hoping Redd & LeBron get along well at the Olympics this year. If they get a nice relationship going it can really help grease the skids for Redd to become a Cav before the season.

Redd has been nothing but a quality guy for the Bucks from all I've heard. If he wants to come to Cleveland which I imagine he would I hope they would do him a favor and send him. As far as the Cavs go I'd take Redd and any other contract they want to unload for any mix of expiring contracts and up to 2 draft picks as long as the second Buck they get doesn't completely suck.
