Still going in the right direction... can't believe I'll have to cheer for the unfrozen caveman powerforward...

Bucks make Villanueva free agent
Associated Press
MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Bucks have made qualifying offers to restricted free agent guard Ramon Sessions and forward Ersan Ilyasova, but will not make an offer to forward Charlie Villanueva -- allowing one of their top scorers from last season to become an unrestricted free agent.
Meanwhile, the team also is dealing with a potentially embarrassing YouTube moment from first-round draft pick Brandon Jennings.

Bucks general manager John Hammond said Monday that the team already had sent offers to Sessions and Ilyasova, giving Milwaukee the right to match any contract offers from other teams. But with Tuesday's deadline for teams to make offers to their restricted free agents looming, the team decided not to make an offer to Villanueva.

Posting on his Twitter account Monday evening, Villanueva noted that "my journey in Milwaukee has come to [an] end," thanking fans and Bucks owner Sen. Herb Kohl for "three great years."

With a mid-level exception at their disposal, the Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to have interest in signing Villanueva -- and the interest sounds mutual. Perhaps anticipating his free agency, Villanueva posted Sunday that "Cleveland fans are showing me mad love on twitter, appreciate the love."

Hammond said he did not want to elaborate on the reasons behind the free agent...

Could there be another guy we can spend the mid-level on?

Listening to KNR last night Roda was talking with Chris Broussard and Broussard brought up Ron Artest. This was pure conjecture from Broussard that the Yao situation might make Houston not sign Artest. Cause if Yao is a career ending situation with his foot, they might think about blowing it all up (ie getting rid of McGrady and not signing Artest so they can have tons of cap room in 2010)

If that were to happen, the teams with cap room would most likely NOT want Artest forcing Artest to take a mid-level deal for a year. And a team he would be interested in would be Cleveland with Shaq & LeBron here.

Just some food for thought...

Please, God, no. If they blow up the Rockets, I'm all for the Cavs getting some deals out of it, but NOT Artest. Why would they want to sign Artest and take him back to Detroit twice a year?? Why not Battier? I'd take McGrady and his mobile triage unit over Artest. I'd rather have Brooks and make him play with the damn bowtie on before Artiest... I'd sign NFBuck and Barry Bonds' "trainors" before taking Artest.

I would take Artest only if the Cavs aren't able to use the MLE to sign one of the PF's that are available. If that were to happen I think Lebron starts spending most of the game at the 4.
Does anyone know what kind of contract David Lee is going to get? I doubt the MLE will be enough to beat the other teams in the market or the Knicks, but I would love to get him if CV doesn't work out.
Also does Bruce Bowen have anything left in the tank? If he gets bought out he could be an option for the other Exception that the Cavs have.

I'd love to get Battier and he should be our first option from Houston because his deffense and height are what we need in a starting SG, and we could bring D-West off the bench for a change of pace. Tracy would take too many of our core players to balance salaries(20 mil contract), unless we traded Z and he accepted a buyout (extremely unlikely). And I would prefer we spend the MLE on CV, Artest will not go anywhere for less than the MLE as Houston would ship T-Mac and keep RonRon instead.

Just passed on what I heard regarding Artest. Don't know how I would feel about it though. He seems to have cleaned up his act alot as he has gotten older. Plus Shaq & LeBron should be able to keep him in line. For a 1 year deal I wouldn't mind it. But then again if I only had to choose between CV or Artest... I would probably choose CV.

I really don't want Lee, I think he is overrated and that is why the Knicks don't even want him. He seems like a less athletic version of Andy.

Now Bruce Bowen I would love. He should be relatively cheap (that bi-annual exception maybe?) And would be a good bench guy to come in and play defense when needed. You would think with the SA ties this front office has he would be a target and he can see the Cavs as a good place to try for another title.

Battier isn't a free agent, so we would have to trade to get him. Plus if I am Houston, he is young enough to keep, so he wouldn't get moved. What Broussard was saying was if Houston is going to rebuild, Artest would not be the guy they would keep. And since Artest is a Free Agent, they just let him sign elsewhere. And we don't have the assets anymore to trade for McGrady either, so the only guy from Houston we could possibly get would be Artest since he is a free agent.

IF Artest then is on the free agent market there is no team with cap space that would sign him (You think Detroit or Utah would sign him???) and the crappier teams with cap space won't go after him either.

I could see Miami, Boston or another playoff team going after him, but the most he's going to get is the MLE. If the Cavs can't get one of the premier PF's I'd take Artest and go with Mo, West, Artest, Lebron, and Shaq as my starters.
At some point the Cavs are going to need to be in the market for a backup SG/SF. Right now they are deep at 4-5 even without CV for Frye, but try to run through the 2 deep at the 1-3. Mo, West, Lebron/ Boobie, Kinsey, Green??? If Bowen can give 20 good minutes off the bench every night and hit over 40% of his 3's I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Boozer has opted in with Utah, finding yet another way to screw the Cavs over. Watch now as the Pissed-ons purssue CV and offer him more money than we can.

:pissed:

I guess Artest would be option B if CV signs with Detroit.

no, what it means is that detroit will offer a ton to milsap to try and disuade utah from matching as the jazz don't want to go crazy into the luxury tax, which they will with kirelenko's contract, along with boozer and what milsap will probably command.
