Sounds like Luke Jackson is looking really good and Hughes is playing some PG. A lineup of Hughes, Jackson, James, Gooden/Marshall, and Z is sounding pretty good.
Cavs get defensive again, win
Jackson slows Pierce in victory over Celtics

PITTSBURGH - Even in the context of the preseason, the Cavaliers played a game devoid of much excitement Tuesday.
Absent was the usual highlight-maker, LeBron James, who sat out with a mild chest strain.
Besides, with the Cavs playing the second night of a back-to-back and the Boston Celtics playing their first preseason game, it wasn't an evening of heroics.
That didn't stop Cavs coach Mike Brown's pulse from quickening because his still-budding team continues to follow his defensive lead. More effort and teamwork on the defensive end allowed the Cavs to win for the second consecutive night, beating the Celtics 96-86 in front of 8,122 fans at Mellon Arena.
After falling behind 17-2, not unlike the dizzying first quarter Monday in Washington when the Cavs also trailed by as many as 15 points, they gathered themselves, tightened the screws around their basket and steadily pulled out to a comfortable lead.
They held Boston scoreless for a seven-minute stretch in the first half and allowed the Celtics to shoot just 40 percent for the game. It was the same recipe as the night before and all last week in practice -- intense defense with plenty of rotation and and backside help.
``I don't care if we win or lose,'' Brown said. ``The things I look at are effort, help, communication and trust on the defensive end of the floor.''
The center of Brown's adoration was second-year swingman Luke Jackson. Getting the start for James, Jackson was assigned to cover Celtics' star Paul Pierce. It wasn't pretty early, with Pierce getting the best of Jackson with several moves as he put up nine points in the first quarter.
But Jackson settled down and allowed his teammates to come to his aid and gave up just nine more points to Pierce the rest of the night. It was still a game-high 18, but cooling Pierce allowed the Cavs to mount a comeback and take over.
``My hat's off to Luke,'' Brown said. ``It was great he stepped up to the challenge. Paul handed him his rear end in the first half and I thought he came back and tried to do the things we're talking about and relied on his team to help him.''
Jackson also scored 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, had a pair of steals and a pair of blocks in the win. He scored 12 points and made a couple threes in the preseason opener on Monday.
``That was a challenge,'' Jackson said. ``(Pierce) is an All-Star. Starting my first game it was exciting. I just tried to approach it like any other game.''
As for James, he strained the muscle during Monday's victory and felt some pain during warm-ups on Tuesday. It being just a preseason game, team doctors suggested he take the night off. He's expected to be out on the practice floor for a light workout in Cleveland this morning.
In a way, winning without James was a little boost.
``There will be days when key guys aren't in so we have to be prepared for the situation,'' said Larry Hughes, who had seven points and three assists. ``We're focusing on not taking any nights off, not taking any plays off.''
Damon Jones drew the start at point guard and played well, picking up five assists and two steals with no turnovers. He went just 2-of-8 on 3-pointers and scored six points.
Drew Gooden and Zydrunas Ilgauskas each turned in solid performances with 11 and 12 points, respectively. Donyell Marshall came off the bench and was impressive, making 3-of-6 3-pointers and scoring 13 points.
Dribbles
Swingman Sasha Pavlovic left the game in the second quarter with a hip pointer. He is listed as day-to-day, but could be out awhile... Ira Newble (foot) and Jahidi White (quad) both sat out but might begin full practice Thursday and could play Friday against the Philadelphia 76ers.... Before the game, James said he hadn't yet decided if he'd play for the U.S. in next summer's world championships in Japan.
