Cavs-Wizards 1st round playoff series

WestEnd

look ma no shoelaces, and I'm down with the KIIING
I can't help but being jacked up that the cavs are FINALLY back in the playoffs. They are so much more fun to watch than the regular season .... BUT, I'm not so sure the cavs are going to have that easy of a time with the wizards here. Don't get me wrong, I definately see the cavs taking this series, but I think the wizards frontcourt is a real tough matchup for the cavs.

Reason being, Haywood, Thomas, and Jamison are quicker, stronger, and more athletic than Gooden, Z, and Varejeo. The two players who are going to really show what they are made of this series are Drew Gooden and Andy Varejeo. I have faith in Z playing well, but he's gonna need some good help D to be effective. But it's hard to say whether the playoff intensity is going to be what wakes Drew Gooden up and makes him consistantly play with fire and intensity, or causes him to fold like the mentally weak player so many people think he is. On the other hand, I kind of worry about Varejeo being so fired up that he plays a little too out of control and gets himself into foul trouble. It'll be interesting to see what happens. Personally I think the playoffs are really going to give Varejeo a stage to shine on, and be more important for his development than any other player on the cavs, (yep even more than lebron). I hope the same happens for Drew Gooden, but I'm not as confidant.

Having Larry Hughes available to keep track of Gilbert Arenas is going to be a HUGE advantage for the cavs. If he can do nothing else besides hound Arenas the whole series, that will be enough of a contribution for him. Flip Murray is COLD-BLOODED and will play great, I have no doubt, so I'm not that worried about Hughes getting into the flow of the offense. LeBron is Lebron, and in the end, he'll be what takes the cavs to the second round. I can't wait to see what kind of game he's going to bring to the playoffs.

In the end, I see Varejeo being the key guy stepping up to help minimize the wizards frontcourt advantage and allow the cavs to get through this series in a tough 6.

Thoughts?

Keep in mind that the Cavs were 1-3 against the Wizards this season, including losing the last three...

Hey, I just noticed something. They have New Jersey as the #3 seed and us as #4, but we have a better final record than NJ (50-32 vs. 49-33). How can a team with a worse record be a higher seed?

The last game the cavs lost to the wizards was a huge game for wizards playoff hopes, and a meaningless time killer for the cavs who had already wrapped up thier playoff position and home court. The first loss was one of lebron's worst nights of his career, AND they didn't have hughes or flip. In terms of games that I'd deam legit, the cavs are 1-1. But yes, in the losses, Jamison owned Gooden, which is a big concern in the playoffs.

Jersey gets the 3 seed because the top three seeds are reserved for division winners.

If you think that's bad check out the west. Notice the 3 seed is playing at the 6 seed. This seeding system has to go.

The Cavs will play much better against the Wizards than they did last week. You could tell they didn't really care in that game and Lebron sat for over a quarter. Their bench ended up coming back 15 or so points against the Wizards starters.

It is true just for seedings and matchups. But get this. If the Cavs and Nets would meet then the Cavaliers would hold the home court advantage due to having the better record. But we have to get that far first to even worry about that.

But those last 3 games had one thing in common. The Cavaliers were not at full strength. In the first game against the Wizards when Hughes was healthy we blew them out. Since then we have added Flip Murray.

In the first 2 losses we did not have Hughes and this last game James was not 100% and we rested everyone basically letting the Wizards win.

So back to the keys for the game. The big key is that Hughes is back and healthy. He must guard Arenas and keep him from going off and leading the Wiz. Another thing like was mentioned is Gooden on Jamison. I can just see Varejao playing major minutes to play defense on Jamison.

I think LeBron really turns it up another notch and we win the series 4-1.

Cavs will get by this game, but it will be a close series. I like the Cavs, but my team is LA Lakers. And to tell you guys the truth, Cavs should win in 7 games...but they will need more then just King James to do everything. Cavs will need quite a bit of supporting help to beat the Wizards. Hughes and Big Z will have to step up their play and take some of the load off of LeBron. Wizards have alot of potential though with Arenas and Jamison. Arenas can put the whole team on his back and carry them to victory if need be.

Overall though, Cavs i think have too many weapons for the Wizards, but it will still take them 7 games to win.

Cavs up by 10 after the first quarter w/ Varejao shooting FT... You can hear that the atmosphere in the Q is absolutely electric. Snow looks good early as he hit his 2 outside shots. Lebron started off rough but has dazzled since then. Marshall hit his first outside shot. However, the Wizards are getting offensive boards left and right and I think we need to pound the ball into Z even more.

Varejao hits one of his 2 FT... 31-20 Cavs

Lets goo Cavs!!
