One of my best friends works for a sports agency here in Columbus and he told me last night that they are anxiously waiting on a decision from both Ashton and Donte Whitner.

But if he is not ready, he won't last long and he can't come back to play at OSU. Fooling the NFL on draft day and earning a living playing are two different things.

I don't even think Youboty is on most scouts radar at all. This could be a big mistake for him. I think he's a great Big 10 corner...but he isn't ready to be an NFL corner. Gamble was far better. Had much more talent, was more popular, and played both ways. If Youboty gets good infomation from those around him, he'll realize it's not worth it for him to leave.

Youbouty is definantly not ready for the NFL. He is fourth on the team in tackles and no one can deny how well he plays the run. But having only one interception on the year will not draw scouts attention. The scouts will undoubtedly put in the Minnesota tape and see that he does need work refining his coverage skills, especially getting his body in position on deep throws. He is overshadowed by the year that Zemawhatevera from PSU is having, and could return next year as the conferences top corner.

um, shazor couldn't cover anyone ever... and was the most overrated player in years to come out of the big ten.

there are some insiders at BN who seem to think the Youboty thing is "in play" as to suggest that nobody is sure what he will do. I agree he shouldn't leave, but I'm not sure that he won't.

I think you're wrong on all but the first count.

- Gamble was never really "exposed"...he had one bad "game" at corner, and that actually was one bad play, at Wisconsin when he bit on the pump and gave up the long TD late in the game. Well, he also played lackluster in The Game in 2003, but that was more of him slacking off to avoid getting hurt before the draft.

- While the NFL does draft on potential, they also draft (with even more emphasis) on performance. Gamble performed consistently the two years he was at corner. Youboty has been mediocre since Minnesota, and would be lucky to even be looked at on the first day.

- So, you're saying that Youboty actually sucks and should declare for the draft before the NFL realizes how bad he is? You may not mean that, but that's how it comes off. Youboty is indeed a very solid corner who needs to get his confidence back with a good senior year. If he plays well in his senior year, he's almost a lock to go within the first two rounds, and be far ahead of where he'd go this year.

Pretty sure you realize that that's not where I was going with that. I'm just saying that he may not want to take the risk of getting caught on a defense that can't offer the kind of QB pressure that this one did, or even offer the safety help that this one did. Especially if Whitner goes too.

Well the catch is that big physical corners are few and far between and teams with the late picks who have won the super bowl or maybe were in the championships games can afford to take a chance.

If he goes he would leave, I would say early to mid 2nd round, with a slight chance to go in the first(27-32)
