THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Just three weeks after accepting a big promotion, Taver Johnson quit and came back home.
Johnson yesterday was introduced as Ohio State?s cornerbacks coach. The announcement came less than a month after Johnson had quit as Miami University?s defensive coordinator to become an assistant defensive line coach for the NFL?s Oakland Raiders. When former cornerbacks coach Tim Beckman left Ohio State, several Buckeyes assistants called Johnson, who admitted to some anxious moments in Oakland.

Some quotes I loved to read in that article.....

"Because if you get a call from a place like (Ohio State), it makes you hold your breath and count your blessings."

"I can remember times when my brother and I would watch the replay of the whole (Ohio State) game on Sunday," Johnson said. "We would just beg our mom, ?Let us stay home from church; we?ve got to catch this game.? So being back in Ohio is a tremendous feeling."

"I was able through the grace of God to weather that storm."

I like the last one not because I'm all that religous, but I respect a man that has the dedication to believe and the convictions to stick by it.

Is this the guy that damaged the press box at Marshall University while he was Miami? I was just wondering because over on bucknuts they're saying this is the guy? My point of view is that its a great hire though!

Yep, he threw a table against a wall..i think he was suspended from coaching a subsequent game and required to pay for the damage.

That incident is mentioned in the Dispatch/BuckeyeExtra link in post #17.

This is the same guy, I played high school football with Taver at C.A.P.E. high school in Cincinnati. I was not surprised when I heard that he destroyed something over a game. On the field this guy would play with more intensity than anyone else I knew. He worked out and studied more than anyone else also, I am proud to have called him a teammate.

Now off the field and out of the weight room he was a totally different person, you couldn?t have asked for a nicer and more caring person to have around. Congratulations to Taver, I hope is here for a long time.

GO BUCKS! G.A.T.A

It sounds like he has the "coaching" part of the equation down... how good is his recruiting ability?

Without quoting directly from a premium article, a Buckeye fan who writes for ESPN made comments along the line of Johnson locking stuff (and that wasn't the word used) down, his relating to kids on their level, and his being relentless. Article made it seem that he will excel at the recruiting aspect...
