CB Dominic Clarke (transfer to Illinois State)

He reminds me a bit of Malcolm Jenkins (though a couple inches shorter). A great all around athlete with very good speed and who seems to play very physical. He also seems to just have a knack for making big plays.

Like Jenkins he committed in June and was a bit under the radar, though both had a couple other pretty solid offers and showed well in camps.

I could see Clarke being that kid that winds up playing a ton his freshman year...just like Chekwa. You rarely see OSU in a base 4-3 anymore...so many passing teams means a lot of nickel and these young DBs are going to get a chance to contribute immediately.

I agree that he could play a good deal in his first year in Columbus due to his physicality and the fact that he looks to be very well put together and mature physically (like Jenkins). However, Chekwa redshirted and didn't see the field until his second year.

Forgot about the RS...either way, a kid like Clarke could be one to pick up the scheme fast, given that he is a 4.0 student and his measurables are fantastic. My inside source on this one has frequently compared him to Malcolm when he was coming out of HS.

From MDVarsity.com.....Audio clip of Dominic talking about his decision to become a Buckeye.

I'm not able to actually listen to it here at work, but figured I'd post it anyway.

Buckeye view for Clarke

Dominic Clarke has one more year to play football at Tuscarora High School, but when he's done there, a bigger stage awaits him -- at Ohio State University.

Clarke has made a verbal commitment for a full scholarship to play football for the Buckeyes -- a national powerhouse -- in 2009.

"Never, in my wildest dreams, did I ever think I would be playing football at Ohio State," Clarke, who was recruited as a cornerback, said on Monday. "I didn't used to have a favorite college football team, but I do now."

Carey said Clarke is the first football player at Tuscarora to get a full scholarship to a major NCAA Division I football school, and the term "major" sure applies to this program. Ohio State has won several national championships, has been a regular in the Top 25 and plays in the Big Ten, a premier conference in the country. The Buckeyes have played in the past two BCS national championship games, losing to LSU and Florida.

Other schools seeking Clarke's talents included Virginia, Maryland, Richmond, Stanford, Duke, Vanderbilt and Boston College. For Clarke, making the choice among so many schools was not easy.

"Ohio State made the offer April 11 and he had to look over the other offers as well," Titans coach Shawn Carey said.

"For Dominic, it gives him a chance to play football on the national level," Carey said. "It also gives him a shot to play in the NFL. I think it's the best place for him. They've got good coaches there and I think Dominic will fit right in."

I highly doubt he sees the field much on defense as a true freshmen unless Washington leaves early. I love the pick up for the buckeyes though.
