DONNIE EVEGE

</TD><TD noWrap width=3></TD><TD vAlign=top>By TIM ADAMS BEARCAT INSIDER

While only a junior, this special talent is getting rave reviews from many college coaches around the country. He also has a deep interest in the Bearcats.

Bearcat Insider reported on Donnie Evege earlier this year, but it’s hard to ignore this impressive junior-to-be from Huber Heights Wayne High School. Donnie attended this week’s Bearcat football camp after camping at Miami of Ohio last week. His physical dimensions are not eye popping (5’ 11”, 187 lbs.), but he was timed at 4.31 in the forty yard dash at Miami last week. That type of speed will get any recruiter’s attention.

Donnie is also a very good student (3.7 GPA) and has already gotten a 21 on the ACT. He’s expecting to play running back and defensive back at Wayne this year but emphasized he would do whatever was needed of him.

When asked about his criteria in making a college choice, Donnie mentioned several points. “Location is a big part of it. I want to be close to my family. Of course, education is also very important. If I do get hurt, I need to have that degree. Also I want to play fairly early. I don’t want to wait until my senior year to get on the field.”

Is Cincinnati a serious contender for his services a couple years from now? “I could see myself playing at Cincinnati. I like this place a lot. I like the coaches, and I think they like me.”

Donnie knows and likes both Cedric Tolbert and Mike Mickens. Could there presence at UC help in his recruitment? “I get along with both those guys. We have a lot of the same interests. I know every situation is different, but if they like UC, I’m sure I’d like it too.”

The Bearcat football program wants to be a perennial contender in the Big East, and getting recruits like Donnie Evege would certainly help that goal in becoming a reality.

It was 2 years ago but we were both freshman and Donnie was 2 rooms down when we camped at OSU. He was a huge buckeye fan and is very familiar with the university and the coaches(he camps and visits there often). We talked about OSU legends and just how you couldn't help but get chills when you walk out in the shoe. He ran a 4.48 his freshman year at the OSU camp and looked very good. One of my friends from Wayne is friends with him so when it comes around 07' I will try and provide some information on his recruiting. If he gets an offer he will probably be a buckeye but will want to enjoy the process.

Wayne (2-1) vs. Spg. South (2-1)

When: 7:30 p.m. today

Where: Heidkamp Stadium, Huber Heights

2004 result: Wayne 24, South 14

Outlook: The Warriors have had an interesting season, if you like drama. After a gut-wrenching, 7-point loss to Cin. Elder, Wayne defeated Fairfield by one in Week 2. Last week, the Warriors spotted Spg. North a 21-point lead before roaring back for a 49-27 victory. Enter Spg. South, a team that usually can score a bunch with a passing attack. Despite a coaching change, the Wildcats will still put the game in the hands of QB Brennen Glass (279 yards per, 8 TDs, 0 INTs). South is averaging a league-best 476 offensive yards (280 passing) and 35 points through three games. Ray West (260 yards) has gotten most of the carries while Glass has spread the ball among Vince Martin (15 catches, 3 TDs), Jeff January (10 catches, 1 TD), West (9 catches, 1 TD) and others. However, the Wildcats have lost five fumbles and been penalized 23 times. QB Alex Earley (190-yard average, 5 TDs, 2 INTs) has solid WRs in Billy Viers, Joe Gilford and Dan Snyder. The Warriors haven't run a lot, but Earley, Gilford and Donnie Evege have had some success. The key to this may be what pressure Wayne's D-line and DBs can put on South's offense.
