CB Gareon Conley (D.C. Defenders)

Yeah would be a great steal. Interested to hear his thoughts on the offer. He has displayed some interest in taking visits. I know his mom is urging him to take a few but she lives on the west coast and is trying to get him to head that way. If we lose him i feel it would be a greater loss than David Dawson.

So will Hoke stick to his guns and pull his offer if he visits elsewhere?

They already stopped him from visiting Cincinnati, but he's been talking about Oregon and many other places.

The kid never went through the recruiting process. Michigan nabbed him right as he surfaced.

Yes. I think David Dawson is proof of that, as is Pharoah Brown last year.

Michigan benefits are nabbing these guys early, but it's hard when you receive late offers/attention and you can't visit, but Michigan ultimately benefits from getting more of these types than they lose. They nabbed Joe Bolden last year, with offers late, and this year they nabbed Channing Stribling, who if he continues having a good year could get some late attention as a 6'2 CB, but it goes without question that keeping guys committed is going to be very critical for Michigan over these last few months. Keeping all the guys they have is just as important as filling the last three spots in the class.

Good discussion for another thread but you're right...and this strategy does lend itself to losing a couple of early verbals late. It's a natural part of pushing for early commits and then taking a hard line stance on other visits. But Coach Hoke and his staff has obviously decided that they plan to wrap up the majority of their classes as early as possible and then try to cherry pick from there.

I'd love to be pointed in the direction of a thread like that. I know I went off topic there.

For what it's worth -- back on topic, I keep reading that Conley is becoming more secure with his UM commitment.

Looks like he shouldn't be so secure since Hoke is definitely going to pull his scholarship now, at least so I have been told.
